NBN Discussion

Meanwhile Rupert Murdoch’s owned newspaper The Australian has launched another attack on the NBN.

news Murdoch-owned newspaper The Australian has published another pre-emptive article attacking Labor’s unreleased National Broadband Network policy, this time focusing around what the outlet intimated was a complete lack of demand for high-speed 1Gbps broadband services in Australia.

I wonder if we can strip Rupert of his Australian citizenship?

Rupert lost his Australian citizenship in 1985.Since 2002 you can become an American citizen and still hold your Australian citizenship.

I know that drron, but I wonder if he tried to get it back or even get a UK passport? He might have it, but I am guessing for tax implications he probably only has US for now.

Federal Police raids Labor Party offices in Melbourne, There were allegations that documents had been leaked from the NBN. Caused immense damage to M. Turnball when they showed cost blow outs of the NBN, The fact that it was slower, the fact that it was going to be delayed. ANd I still dont have the NBN being in the Melbourne CBD.

That would be another example.
A fundamentally meaningless statement. It's not Government's job to deliver a "commercial operation", whatever that's supposed to be. Government is not a business (though hypocritically enough even most of the people who think Government is a business won't and would never let it run as one).
Mmm. Maybe this needs to be compulsory viewing for the people who thinks Government delivers nothing and is a waste of time. Or maybe this compulsory reading for people who think profit above all else is a good way to run a society.
Yes, well, if only the people who want to financialise and privatise everything, and think letting a handful of people own everything is a good idea understood that. Maybe they could read up on Feudalism. Or Fascism. Then again they might consider those things to be desirable goals.
History repeats first as tragedy, then as farce.
Here was I rather than thinking I could possibly guide you away from your seeming political bias. Lesson learned.

Pretty weird move to raid during an election campaign, especially considering this just puts further light on Malcolm Turnbull's role in the failed shift to MTM. It's almost like someone in the LNP wanted the "Streisand effect" to be shone on Malcolm.

Opposition Leader Bill Shorten said it was "an extraordinary development" and related to Mr Turnbull's embarrassment over NBN revelations.
"It relates to his embarrassment over the fact that there was a massive blow out of costs of billions and billions of dollars, and of course huge delays in the roll out of the NBN," Mr Shorten said

"It is the case that those raids are happening," Mr Burke told ABC's 7.30.
"The thing that I also know with this, is during the life of this Parliament, on 23 different occasions we've asked about leaks from all parts of this government, right through to the national security committee of cabinet. The night before the budget government staffers were handing out cabinet in confidence documents around the press gallery.
"I know how many of those inquiries have resulted in police raids. I don't know how many times they've been referred to the AFP."

AFP raid ALP offices in Melbourne over NBN 'leaks'

I suspect the AFP raids when it gets information or is ready.

Certainly would think this is more negative for Libs. They mostly seem to be burying any info about the NBN

Well, in other news, my FTTB has been connected and i'm getting lovely speeds - sync of 107 down, 44 up - testmy.net getting up to 90 down and 40 up, depending on the server. Realistic throughput of up to 9 megabytes per second from steam. Very happy.

As moa999 suggested, someone did in fact have to be home so the NBN tech could perform a line test once it was all set up in the basement. Lucky I had poked a Cat6 cable out my front door from my phone socket :) Tech was initially uncomfortable accessing the building without me here but I talked him in to it from 900kms away over the phone.

No dropouts so far, but one wouldn't expect that unless there was a major technical fault with the NBN gear in the basement or a problem with my line itself.

Bit early to say no government involved with Fifield admitting knowledge of raid.

Meanwhile what is a NBN worker doing in a AFP raid taking photos of evidence?

Senator Fifield on Saturday confirmed he had been advised by NBN Co on the matter but insists he did not pass the information on to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull or any other ministers.
The admission comes after revelations a NBN Co employee took 32 photographs of the secret documents while assisting the AFP during raids of Labor offices in Melbourne on Thursday.

The next few days could be interesting, maybe lots more to this than has been made public so far. Meanwhile I will be taking a few grains of salt ........

That's creative thinking. Great result

Meanwhile Clive Palmer posted this today.

If Clive Palmer says something the truth is likely to be the opposite.

When it comes to "protecting his interests"? Of course - he is an uber capitalist after all. But what's in it for him this time??? Might be worth investigating it to get to the truth, eh?

[Yeah - that was sarcasm. The government rarely wants to see the truth come out - particularly when there's an election on]

The NBN is in my area!! I saw them threading that light blue cable fiber optic cable near my place. The website also confirms the fact. So apart from registering anything else to do?
