Yes, but FT uses a heavily tailored version.

vBulletin is owned by "Internet Brands" as is FlyerTalk.

vBulletin review - how Internet Brands have killed off vBulletin
Fascinating story. Thank you for the link. I understand things better now. It sounds like some of the people who were working for vBulletin are now working for Xenforo which I think is a good sign for our new look forum. What version of vBulletin was AFF using before the migration? The version number will make more sense to me now that I've read the linked article. Before then it was just a number without a meaning for me personally.

Is Flyertalk still using vBulletin?

As serfty says, yes. They run vBulletin 3, which AFF used prior to upgrading to vBulletin 4 (what we were using last week).

But here’s the thing, the company that owns Flyertalk also owns vBulletin. Their current product is vBulletin 5, yet they haven’t upgraded Flyertalk to even vBulletin 4, which just recently hit the end of its life.

If I owned a site like Flyertalk and vBulletin I would want it running the latest and greatest. The fact it isn’t speaks volumes.

Just remember sam we really aren't having a go at you.

I know. Just have to work on my bedside manner :p

You should firstly check that your boxes on your Alert Preferences page have remained checked (as per example below).

I looked at that. Is that for 'alerts' as in the white flag at the top right of the screen/page, or does an 'alert' include e-mail advisements of new posts? I haven't been able to find the control that allows me to say a global yes/no to e-mail advisements of new posts to a thread. Can you help there?

We heard you the first time. Repeating this same issue over and over is not pushing it to the top of the list. Our current focus is on the wiki, which has been down since we went live.

I suggest you turn the brightness up on your computer monitor because I have been using the new site on 3 different devices and have had no issues.

With respect, I suspect there is an age difference between Limewood and yourself, with Limewood the more senior. Suggesting to him to turn his brightness up is like saying to some old codger "turn your hearing aid up, mate!" when they say 'Pardon?'.

Besides, the oft-noted washed-out look to the new site, and the very faint presentation of quoted text will be made worse by turning the screen brightness up.

A bit more consideration for those of us over, say, 40 would be much appreciated. You'll be our age one day and may then appreciate what I am saying.

It is my understanding that "yes" is the answer to both your questions - but I will be corrected by @support if I'm wrong

On the second question, I don't think a global button exists (again, I'll be corrected as I haven't found it yet). However, scroll to the top of any page of a thread and on the RHS will be either the term "watch thread" or "unwatch thread" - depends on whether you are already watching that thread. For those that you want to watch (a new thread where you just want to watch without posting yet), click on "watch thread" and it should ask you to confirm. Click "watch thread" as per example below (choosing whether to have email notifications or not):

If you are posting and want to add the email notification at that point, then when editing your response, scroll down to the "options" section and select as per this example (click on "and receive email notifications") then save changes:

At the risk of going slightly off topic (actually no risk, a certainty) the new website allows us to easily see that you have got more likes than posts.

An impressive feat. Well done. :)

VBulletin has been around a long time used by many forums. I'm not aware of the politics behind ownership of vBulletin but it's still a useful tool.

The moderators and admin have put in a lot of time on this upgrade. Hope it's worth it. And hopefully no one is criticising the effort behind the migration.

They had no choice actually:) Google is restricting access to non HTTPS sites.

I’ll say your statement is half true. Google is dropping page rank to non-HTTPS sites.

However, the former site did have HTTPS, it just wasn’t forced.

My eyes are already terrible. I have to wear glasses to drive etc.

My issue is the constant repeating of the same point. We have noted it and we are looking at options in the background, but there are other more pressing matters to deal with (like the wiki) and so that is where the priority is going.

Pressing matters..... Honestly, I couldn't care less about the Wiki. I never liked it when it was introduced on the old site. I would rather the legibility/contrast of the new site was fixed first.

It is all a matter of one's own priorities.

You might not but it’s at the top of our list, and a lot of members use it.

Personally think the Wiki's are a very valuable part of many sections of the site, and agree on the prioritisation.

My eyes are OK, but I can barely distinguish between black and dark grey used.
I actually agree with the lighter grey font being used as default for quoted posts and signatures -- on the whole its unimportant content -- and its a helluva lot nicer than yellow shading

As for text colour:
black bold
dark grey bold - default for text (possibly this could be changed to black, but the difference isn't substantial)
medium grey bold - similar to what is used for quotes (italics and font size 3)
light grey bold - not used thanfully
