New Amex statement credits

Yes. I got few $300 gift cards from Hilton to bypass the 'one transaction' requirement and got cashback.

Notice GCs are valid for six months and can only be used for booking at the hotel you bought them from.

Thanks for that. Looks like no gift vouchers for Cairns... :(

Wait, HN sell prepaid VISA gift cards? Or is that a typo and one is referring to the vPay vouchers?

If they did, they won't still be there today. Harvey Norman has cottoned on in a big way what's happening here. This deal is well and truly getting ozbargained.
I'm looking to buy an iPhone and split payments, but I have my doubts that I'll even be able to do that (split payments) given the fallout from the last few days.
I'll likely be heading out later today and try my luck.

Any news on the vpay situation? No longer available?

I should've gone yesterday and snapped it up xD

Edit: Just checked ozbargian and that looks like the case - now I'll actually have to buy something

100% you won't have luck with V-pay. That's gone Aus wide. Id be curious to know if harvey norman gift vouchers can still be bought with amex.

They can be purchased in store. But I would expect this to be stopped soon as well. It's already been stopped online.

Need to act without further delay if you want to exploit the gaps still available.

Yep just tried to purchase Vpay at my local HN store, attendant tried to process the Vpay transaction but was denied, she had no idea why ;)

Managed to trigger two more this morning . Attendant charged me and then said he couldn't do it . So refunded to another card . Said let's try again on another card . Same thing so refunded to another card lol . This is the ideal way cause I don't need to put out the 5.50 card fee haha...

Personally for me buying has been better than VPay as I have gained some great prices...Bowers & Wilkins P7 Headphones $299, Nokia Lumia 930 $79! (new phone for daughter), iPad Air 128 GB $499... etc. I did buy one $200 GC to take one card past the $300 but I will use that against another purchase.

I am just haggling over the final price for a Heat Pump Dryer which is already cheaper than anywhere else which will use up my 5 final un-used Amex Credits.

Yep, that's the way to go I think. At the very least Harvey Norman are getting your business which I believe is in the spirit of this promotion. And you're getting good prices. Win win.

So you have had them pay the rebate on reversals?

I have gained it when partial refunds have been done.

I don't think they can refuse to accept your payment for goods providing that it is reasonable (e.g. only 2 or 3 splits).

You could be someone living hand to mouth at the extent of your credit limit, how would they know the difference?

I can understand that the HN bean counters want to shut down the VP route... They are probably footing a good chunk of the cash back, so actually losing real money on those deals.

Yes indeed, this is exactly the spirit. I just happened to time buying a new TV with a one day sale meaning the net cost to me was under 50% of RRP and 40% off the usual HN price.

WRONG!

You just need to exercise some lateral thinking....

Logic: If they did not think through the promotion fully in the first place - why will the "fix" be any more thought through?

Reality: It is not.

This morning, 11.28am - "$300 vPay no longer available".

OK, I would like a $294.50 one then please....

"All right, oh it won't let me enter that amount - would you like $250 as that is the next size available?"

Yes thank you.

<<BTW we had picked up a few odds & sods as one small appliance died yesterday and needed replacing - so made up the amounts to just above the magic mark.>>

So, a number of $250s purchased (CANNOT buy HN gcs apparently as they come from a different separate terminal and three terminals cannot be combined). The man tried several times before we just used our HN items to make up the difference. Several more cards left to use closer to Xmas and present hunting. USBs will probably get a work out.

You heard it here first...

No gift cards at Harvey Norman Wiley Park. Only ePay and iTunes.

Think the writing is on the wall.

I can confirm that $100 Vpay vouchers were available yesterday. I thought it was always clear that only the $300 Vpay cards had been impacted.

I bought $100 Vpay vouchers today at HN.

Ask for $300 and they will take the money from your card. Then they will say 'out of stock'. Then you say how about 3 x $100 cards instead and they say 'OK'. It does make it more difficult to convert them as they are a smaller sum. But Vpay still available!

For BNE residents, CRU bar & cellar participates in Shop Small. Their wines are overpriced but can get good deal on beer like 6 pack Asahi super dry for $10.
