New Amex statement credits

These were e-giftcards?

Yes.

I wonder how that happened?

Converted my DM egift cards to a physical WW giftcard.

Don't know what happened but I'm not surprised.
Two years ago I purchased some e-GCs and WW accidentally sent me an email with dozens of other people's GCs details followed by another email couple of days later asking to ignore the previous one sent by mistake.

Bottom line - check the balance of your e-gift cards, if there's a problem call Woollies and they'll send you a physical card!

They sent me new DM e-GCs, even better as I can use some this weekend instead of waiting few days for plastic cards to arrive.

Got all my Vpays and thinking what to do next.

What's the common consensus here, paying rates, getting WW GCs or withdraw cash? For the latter does it mean another $10 investment for buying Pre-payed MC or is there another way?

spacebar

For me personally, I'm waiting for some QC35's on special in the next week or so. Not often you get $100 off a Bose product.

Mine are going to pay my strata levies. It is an easy way to get rid of all of them in a timely manner.

So I just totted up the statement credits I have received in the first 6 months of being an Amex direct customer (Plat Charge x2, Reserve & Edge x2)..... $1,500. Plus around $720 in flights, plus Virgin lounge entry for 2 pax, twice. All of that for an anuual fee of $950. I'm impressed!

Well my first $100 rebate just posted today ( 5th Nov )for the HN deal for 2nd Nov spend which included a $200 GC as well as an item.

Steady progress on Shop Small so far - 16 credit emails, 7 actual credits received. Target is 70 as we have 7 cards.

I've started off slowly but already clocked up a couple. Pup is in for desexing and the vet is on shop small...wondering if they will split over 5 cards

Just returned from HN Castle Hill trying to get VPay but failed to materialize at VPay checkout. Seems that it's sold out/expired/.....
Got charged with Amex and got refund. Guy behind me was trying to buy a stacks as well.
Anywhere that it's possible to purchase in Sydney?

Update: Just got notification from Amex of purchase. It will be great if I got $100 credit for the cancelled transaction. A loophole??

I wouldn't be surprised at all. Recently made order from WW online but they failed to deliver all items on the list so cancelled and ordered again (other items) using different card and somehow got refund on both cards.

Interesting how almost every Japanese restaurant participates in Shop Small but hardly any Chinese or Korean.

Similar experience this afternoon when I went with a friend who was trying to buy some Vpay cards. $300 Vpay card is 'sold out'. Harvey Norman staff didn't understand so they rang Vpay and vpay said that these $300 cards were temporarily unavailable across Australia . Did not indicate when they would be available again. Glad I have all mine already.

NOTE: Other denominations of Vpay cards were still available. My friend was offered $100 cards instead and declined.

Damn it.. live in the Melbourne CBD but HN here doesn't have any, was going to go a HN further out tomorrow.

I have received and activated several but am waiting on an additional card to come through the post. Will see how vpay react over next few days-suspect its been busy in their (presumably small) office
(I see its backed by Heritage but I bet they don't have abig team on vpay)

I suspect it won't be 'fixed' until at least Monday. And they may withdraw $300 products until after the AMEX offer finishes.

But don't forget you can still buy Harvey Norman vouchers in store and the offer doesn't end until the end of the year. So still plenty of time to act.

I guess so... Here's hoping that either vPay or the prepaid visa gift cards will come back before this Amex Offer ends. Otherwise, just have to go with HN gift cards... and wait for specials/price matching.

You need to act immediately when these 'gaps in the system occur'. They are often closed down as soon as noticed. But hopefully you can still get some value from Harvey norman gift cards. Although this may be the next things stopped. I've already seen reports of online purchases of gift card for Harvey Norman being reject.

I really wonder if Amex subsidizes all these statement credits. I know someone who works for the company (won't say the name here) that had one of the best amex statement credit promos not long ago. He heard from another department that it was their fault that they did not put the minimum in the terms (you could probably guess by now lol) and it was their employee who put a lot of 1c transactions. They were aware of it because the system failed to process those. He didn't know if the company had to pay anything though but it sounded like the company set the terms at Amex. The damage probably wasn't that big since you had to be a member to take advantage. Also someone on Ozbargain said that HN staff weren't willing to sell gift cards because the store will lose money if they use gift cards somewhere else. Now Ozbargain said Vpay is out of stock at all HNs.

Amex allows 60,000 cards so if 10,000 cards takes advantage of the offer, its pretty much a million dollars that don't benefit both Amex or HN. Not sure if the damage is big enough for them to crack down on these. A friend of mine who works for a bank made a mistake giving out airline points which ended up costing over half a mil but the bank didn't try to take them back (and he still has the job :D).

Funny that these statement credits caused quite a bit of an issue to merchants including small shop one. Spoke to some shop owners and they were really sick of Opal runners lol
