New Amex statement credits

With other offers, say the HN offer, it could be argued that the vPay purchases are not in the 'spirit' of the offer (you should be buying actual goods). The same cannot be said for the Westfield GC offer.

A piece of cardboard, a piece of paper (not the receipt) and a staple are not considered goods? :o

It can be argued that splitting payment between several cards in order to avoid the gift card fee is not in the spirit of the promotion.

Do the T&Cs say anything about splitting payments?
Seems the main reason some places allow it while other don't is some employees just can't be bothered.

I am certainly not surprised Westfield are playing funny buggers (given past experience with XS).

I only saved it to two cards in the end, so I will try to buy a $200 card split over them and see how I go.

If I got it correctly, the best method is first buy Westfield gift card, then Coles/Mayer gift card using purchased $100 Westfield card plus $150 AMEX to receive total of $250 Coles/Mayer card for $180 spend.

I haven't rushed to get these offers although I've saved them-are Myer people OK with using GCs to buy GCs?

That would be the issue, and I have found Myer does seem to have a high proportion of retail staff on power trips.

I'm happier just paying the extra $2 for the XS Westfield card that you can use at a few more places.

You guys remember the XS AMEX card cycling to get points back in the day? he he he Westfield sucks so bad!!

Just took the plunge on 5 XS cards at Westfield Sydney. Told concierge I was happy to pay for the individual cards but didn't want to carry 5 when what I wanted to buy was $500. She tried but the system wouldn't let her do split payments. Will be interesting to see how I go spending them. If I have a good experience, will get the high value one next time to use wherever Amex isn't accepted or to avoid surcharge. Shame Westfield aren't a supermarket :)

They lady who served me was also very diligent - confirmed the names on all the cards matched as well as matched my phot ID - assuming only way to "fudge" it for those of us enhancing the promotion with supplementary cards, is by using ApplePay for Amex or ANZ issued cards.

I played safe at first choice and Myer as I got individual cards. The first choice moron put today's date instead of month/year on card!
Went to Westfield for xs card and got the script from two different people.... Silence when told other states letting it split. I'm going to try interstate before I may have to follow the pack/rules.....
Latest posts say interstate is assimilating to southern states no splitting memo?
All credits in email on return home.

It is interesting that Westfield and AMEX are getting a little agitated with people taking up the Westfield GC statement credit offer. GC are the ONLY thing you can buy and they are a little unhappy we are buying them.
...
Another issue is "Breakage" - Westfield's execs rely on predictions of a significant amount of unreedemed value on these products (I have seen figures of 30% in relation to gift cards).

When people like us purchase significant amounts then redeem the lot it skews the figures - making the execs look silly ... and possibly affecting any performance bonus they may be anticipating.

Oh dear, how sad, what a shame!!

First Choice at Ashfield don't have any Coles Group cards. I was actually after a First Choice one as a gift so it didn't matter, but when I walked up and asked for a gift card (couldn't find them... they were tucked in a corner at the front) the first thing the girl said was "we don't have coles ones".

I bought my Coles Myer Group GC at First Choice Duncraig (WA) on Saturday - the cards were on a display at the front counter. Might be interesting to drop in there again this week and see if they're still there!

We now have 6x $300 Coles Myer Gift Cards by using our 6 Amex cards at both Myers and First Choice liquor ....so we will be getting betwern 20 and 23% off our grocery shopping at Coles for next 6-12 months ...can't complain! Still deciding whether i want to return to Westfield for their gift cards given the unhelpfulness and rudeness I encountered last week....

Myer credits have posted on Amex-issued amex. No sign of myer on bank-issued or westfield on any just yet. Interestingly, both show as 'redeemed' on Amex Connect for my bank-issued so I'll keep an eye out for the credit in the next day or two.
