Yes, I realise Gold membership is free, but what appears to be applicable only for AMEX cards is this:
10% off new bookings or 10% off existing bookings if you use this CDP code '705500'
For short term Hertz rentals better use UA promo codes. Gives minimum 2,000 miles for airport reservations (book on United website) or 500 for other locations (book on Hertz website).

Try this and other combinations of discount codes, but latest AMEX offer worked out cheaper.
Off-topic but it would be good to have a sticky of best codes for Hertz, Budget, Avis etc. I find it hard to keep track as a relatively infrequent user, what was great last time is rubbish the next time!UA promo is not the cheapest but it all depends how you value the bonus miles. For short term I think it's best value ATM. For longer rentals there are other options like Avis promos combined with 5 MR points per $ offer (running until end of July IIRC).
