New Amex statement credits

I utilised my three Adoga statement credit offers during the week and received the credits over night. Credits appeared a lot quicker than usual IME.

It has been a long time since a decent statement credit offer has been available (to non SYD or MEL customers at least)....

I haven't made use of a single offer this year, even in SYD or MEL.

Going to try to see if they will give a retention bonus based on the poor offers this year.

I used the Agoda offer this morning and there was a 'PointsMax' area to enter VFF number, so will be also receiving VFF points on top of $60 credit which was an unexpected bonus as we don't normally use Agoda (points value was 4.47 x room rate). Also a $20 'gift card' for use toward a future booking (which may or may not be useful unless another Amex credit offer).

For most of the hotels that I stay at regularly, I find that Agoda is normally very good value. If you 'subscribe', they also email you 5-10% off discount codes/links each month which make the standard deals even better. The VFF points are icing on the cake.

The hotel I booked was over 23% cheaper (with a 5% discount code) than what Expedia or Hotels.com were offering. Splitting the stay into three bookings to make the most of the Amex offer, I was 36% better off in total.

Hilton offer terms include the exclusions

This could be a problem if Amex are able to tell the difference between a prepaid booking and paid at the Hotel Front Desk.

Thoughts?

Had a non-refundable booking hit the card a few days after signing up for the offer and received the credit. Haven't stayed at the hotel yet and the booking was made prior to the offer even being available.

Has it really been that bad? I thought last year was exceptional and accumulated $1600+ credits in November alone (thanks Hardly Normal) but so far this year I have still accumulated $1600 of credits and that is without using any of the hotel offers as I haven't travelled much this year.

For me it definitely has. The Agoda offer will be my first for the year. Particularly disappointed by the lack of Qantas offers and iirc Shop Small has been halved this year.

The last couple of years were really great whereas now I haven't used the card in over six months.

Reporting on the Hilton offer. Booked last night a pre-paid rate for the HBNE for next month. Received the following email

"Thank you for using Amex Offers with your Card ending *****at HILTON HOTELS & RESORTS. If your purchase meets the offer terms, you will receive a $120.00 credit. Credits usually take 5 days to appear on your account upon completion of your qualifying transaction, but may take up to 90 days after the offer has ended. "

Transaction is still showing as pending and no sign of the cash back yet. Will update again in a few days.

The transaction moved out of pending about 48 hours ago and today the cash back appeared. So so confirming that this worked for prepaid at HBNE. Winning!

I gave Agoda a compliment (as above) and they repaid me with a change in their pricing structure over the weekend to a far more expensive one.

For some hotels in Europe that I have been following for months, the price on Agoda has gone from the cheapest to the most expensive overnight as they now appear to be using Booking.com prices which have always been very expensive IME (Agoda and Booking.com have the same parent company). Pricing at other various websites (Expedia etc) has not changed.

To rub salt into the wounds, the email discount code 'link' has been broken with their various website changes, meaning you cannot obtain the 5%0email discount now.

Lucky I used my Amex statement credits last week as Expedia with the 10% code from Amexconnect would now be a cheaper option...

Was this for a new account? If so it's quite normal and definitely targeted.

Not a new account. Have had this particular card since December.

EDIT: Mrs NoName also got it for her AMEX Ultimate which she has had since January.
But was this the first time you have received this offer for these accounts? Each new account gets it one time. It doesn't necessarily come the moment the account is opened.

I have never seen this specific offer before however we did receive what I assumed was the usual welcome offer when the cards were opened.

Here is the offer:
