New Amex statement credits

Why can't you buy a gift card like everybody else? Part of the fun in getting these Amex credits is to get them in a way that Amex / the vendor don't intend.

I've posted this in the loosely-related Dan Murphys thread, but I bought a gift card from the Phillp (ACT) store and did not receive the usual instant email/statement credit for some reason.

Anyone else experience this?

I didn't get any emails either but I did receive the credits about 2 days later.:)

Two purchases at DM without receiving email ... both credits have been applied to the account. For the hicaps credit I've received the email and credit 2/2.

Soooooo, will it work if I purchase a $100 gift card online via pricepal?

Should work for the Statement Credit but I didn't think giftcards paid out the Pricepal cashback

I was going to give it a go, but realised that DM giftcards purchased online, can only be used online and not instore.

And most of us don't want to use the gift cards either online or instore but at another store altogether!

Not sure why I'd have wanted a gift card?

Was happy to get a couple of 15 year whiskey for $40 a bottle, which helped to increase my earn rate to 1.25 points / $ spend.

If you have a Amex Plat Edge card the online rate is 3pt/$. If you do not want delivery then order "Click & Collect".

During the last Amex statement credit offer a few months ago I bought an AEG machine from HN. HN are merely an agent for Electrolux who distribute AEG. I didn't get a HN receipt but from Electrolux. It's highly likely the same type of arrangement exists with Miele.

I also bought a bed which I spread over a few cards and received all credits.

Same arrangement with Miele but I've got bonus points before by paying HN first.

i signed up for the dan murphy's credit. any one know of any WA stores that sell WISH giftcards too? Or are they all strictly DM cards only?

A heads up , just did a new one , hilton & doubletree hotels spend $250 get $50 back.
I'm sure that will get a lot of use from the members.

The 4th point in the T&C's indicate that the credit will only apply to Australian hotels. It's a shame as I am booking hotels for EU trip next year too.
