:evil::evil::evil::evil: Well, THAT'S IT! No more will I attempt posting from my phone using the app. Danged thing has reverted to insisting I'm not logged in - despite fully closing the app and doing a hard re-boot. And I had some nice shots of my helo office at the Drakensburg this afternoon...

Will see y'all in terms of pics about 5 weeks after I return home from Madagascar, Botswana, Zimbabwe and compile my full TR.

Damn shame.

Hear your pain JohnM. That happened to me last Europe trip. I upgraded the day before I left.

Admin - can you roll back to the version of 12 months ago because I had that version on my pc and was able to rollback. And its perfect.

Surely that is a compromise given it has now been a year without getting fixed.

I've found the app overall too coughbersome and unreliable, especially for posting. So I haven't used it.

Luckily I'm content just to use my laptop most of the time. That does limit the viable places where I can read AFF, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I prefer using the app as it is easy to review those threads I've participated in and other new ones. And the app is perfect for on-the-run Trip Reports. I am lazy once I get home and just know I wont do the same report once back. Whereas when travelling I share my excitement. And the app means I can take a photo and post it to the thread so easily.

That's interesting. I do agree with the "excitement" thing, and admittedly posting from the app with the "instant upload" kind of thing is easier than the desktop where you actually need to fiddle around with both getting the image off the imaging device and then using the attachment system.

That said, since I usually use better quality photos via a point-and-shoot camera (yes, they still exist and people still use them), I'm no better using the app than usual.

Plus, although I would not get a failing grade in terms of technology competence, I would go a bit crazy having to tap out an entire trip report, let alone on my smartphone. Probably not helped by the fact that I would need to keep tapping coughbersomely like crazy to get the formatting codes correct. I know I often say far too much (even in trip reports), but so....

Just letting you know that a new version has just been released. The Android version is already available and the iOS version may take a week or so to go through the Apple Review process.

The new version addresses the image problem. Images are now "clickable" so you can view them on seperate screen if they are too big.

Regarding some of the other questions raised on this thread: We won't be reverting back to the Tapatalk App. (In fact if you Google it, you will find that many large forums are leaving the Tapatalk platform for pretty much the same reasons as AFF did)

Also, remember that we have a Mobile AFF version which should appear automatically on your device when you view AFF on a Mobile browser. I realise this is not a App, but does offer full AFF functionality on your phone.

Confirm images work a lot better on the new Android version. :)

Whilst you can see the emoticons above when inserting, they just convert text then.
Old version only has smiley face.

Still some spacing issues when you edit a post, but fixes after a refresh.

iPhone update released this morning. Can confirm the image loading issue seems to be resolved and is a lot better!

Apple must liked the update very much if they approved it so fast :) hope it will fix most of the issues.

That was sans photo. Now for the real test in other threads.

It worked without trying to claim I wasn't logged in when I attached a pic. So far, so good. Flaky WiFi here is more of an issue at present.

Excellent. If the good reports keep coming in it sounds like I can update.

Still seems to struggle loading 'Subscribed' and still not consitently landing at last page. Strangely, that doesn't seem random - several times it laned on the same page from back in 2015.

But early days.

I actually think this is more a timeout issue with the website rather than the new app itself.

I've had it happen to me a number of times using the old Android app on phone (have new app on tablet).

Seems to occur more with lengthy posts

So sick of this app. 50% of the time I get not logged in errors. I waited to start a new TR until I updated the app. Made sure to close it and restart before I started. Same stupid message. Even worse, it wouldn't let me copy to notes.

Doing this via Safari on iPhone because I am sure the app will crash. Ridiculous.
