New iOS and Android Apps - Bug Reports and Suggestions

The not logged in error occurs on my Android phone. First I open the app, then I navigate to the "Subscribed" list, and up comes my current active threads. Now if I was not logged in, it would not know my "subscribed" threads, but in the first thread I read, up comes the error. So maybe a time out, but pretty short time. Personally I think it is to do with authentication during the posting process.

New Android App just hit my devices (4.5.0).
Change log just says bug fixes, UI enhancements

Yes, an new version has just been released!. :)

The Android version is now available, and the iOS version in the coming days/weeks (once approved by Apple).

This version goes a long way in addressing the problems many of you are experiencing. The App will now attempt an "auto login" if the App has been idle for a while. If successful, then this process will be transparent to you. If it fails and you have already written a post, the post will be saved. So when you manually logout and then login back in, you will be able to post what you have just written without the need to rewrite the post.

I have the new version on my new iPad Pro and my first post on it wasn't allowed as a I wasn't logged in but I'd previously just 'liked' something.

You have to keep refreshing the app.

All we need now is a way to enlarge the font on the app. My tired old eyes aren't coping.

Test post after browsing for 15min - which is where I often used to get a timeout.

So far so good.

Having a issue with iOS app, post a message it tells me not logged in when it appears I am

Android app is working well but appears to not be updating the subscribed threads based on threads I had read on PC, and counts my own posts as unread new comments.

Android app definitely works better but still had one issue.

From memory was logged into app, put phone down for maybe an hour with it still open. Went back in read 2 or 3 threads and tried to reply to a post.
Nothing saved and normal issue (thankfully it was only a short response)

i get 'user denied permission to location' error on loading the app

I get that, but then I have specifically denied access for AFF to location services (i.e. using permission options)

Still often get "not logged in" errors frequently. One time when this happened in "full reply" mode, I hit Cancel then Save and when I reloaded AFF and returned to that thread, it seemed to prefill the saved reply for me. I still took a copy (i.e. select all, Copy) before I abandoned the reply. If I did the reply in "quick reply" mode which is underneath the replies list in thread, there is no option to Save, so need to take a copy, quit, restart and so on.

Generally if I haven't posted within a minute or so (this is a wild guess) of loading AFF, my post won't proceed without the "you are not logged in" error. I do have techniques to salvage the post, but it can be very annoying when I'm posting in a thread that I haven't subscribed to yet, because then I have to remember which forum that new thread is in and find it. (Once you click on that thread in Unread, it won't be there any more).

EDIT: Just for the record, this post successfully posted without the "not logged in" error... this is not usual...

Lack of testing poor user experience, goodness me when will this gets fixed and usable?

I guess we are the "testing". That said, I don't know, other than the number of reports in this thread, how the development team actually get good feedback on the product to investigate faults. Normally, in a true "testing" phase (nominally before the go live) there would be plenty of hooks and reports prepared so the team can have a better chance at tracing faults.

In any case, I still wonder how people can get the "not logged in" error when they clearly are. Obviously, those using the desktop version of the website are not experiencing anywhere close to these kinds of issues (would be a mini disaster if so); I assume it all has to do with the cookie / session info saved in the browser cache keeping the connection alive (i.e. when queried by the AFF server).

Maybe it would be a benefit for you to go back and look at the history as this has been discussed quite a few times.

The app is far from perfect and admin is aware of that and of the apps limitations. Unfortunately the original platform (and the good app) are no longer available and what we have is as good as is possible at the moment.

Hi, thanks for your note. I'm aware of the issues and the view that the old platform isn't available in the future. I'm just pleased I still have the old app because if I had to use the new one I would probably given it away. I hope it can be sorted soon because this is a great site but the problems with the app likely mean a number of users don't have as much interaction as they would like.

I'm getting this error message when I try to log in via the App on iOS

I've updated to latest version but still no joy :(

You need an active premium subscription to AFF to login to the app.

If you have paid for one and are having troubles, please send me a PM.

You do need to be a paid member to login to AFF via the App. See AFF Membership Levels —

This is not 100% correct. Anyone can register and login to AFF for free via a web browser. You do need to be a paid member to login to AFF via the App.

I guess as this is the suggestions thread... I would, with all due respect, suggest that you making logging in and posting available to non-paid members. I thank you for considering my suggestion.

When a user logs in to the current version of the app, ads are no longer displayed. It has always been this way. As ad revenue is a part of how the website remains operational, doing so would have a financial impact on the website. An exchange for not seeing ads when logged into the app is a yearly fee (or monthly Silver if you want to try it out), which depending on the tier also removes ads from the desktop browsing experience or provides extra services.

Ultimately, value is subjective. Considering your status in two airline programs and two hotel programs, from what you have listed in your profile, access to discounted Qantas Club may not be as valuable to you as other members, but there are other discounts available in the Gold subscription package. A step down from that is the Silver subscription, which might make more sense to you, if you wanted to help support the site and use the app.
