Whilst waiting at SFO immigration this morning i noticed a CL RFID tag on a carry on. It's grey trim with black middle, all white QF logo and font.

I would have taken a picture, but USA immigration being what it is, i didn't feel like a secondary screening :)

Looked quite nice although PS WP and CL are probably all too boring. They could have made them more shiny :)

Correct. CL tags are black in the centre.

Based on that QP now appears to be a downgraded level from PS.

I wonder, being a QP PS whether I'll get the PS tags or the QP/"retail" ones?

I note also no free tags for QP, but I thought it had been previously mentioned QP were to be sent out tags?

It does also say SG gets access to the premium desk ......... when was that brought in?

Alas, :( Alan J has sent me nothing yet, possibly because my anniversary is May, I dont have an AUS address and my middle name is code share. Cheers skip

Time to eat my post. SG NGCI bag tags arrived in my PNG mailbox today:) for no apparent reason. These will be immensely valuable at POM.

Mrs Pineapple still waiting, possibly they take total spend into account as well as status tier.

BTW If you think they're a bit slow coming, still waiting for PX Gold card after renewing months ago. We received someone else's PX Gold kit, dated April, a couple weeks ago:rolleyes:

Cheers skip

Don't worry, I've received my BD *G card but still haven't received the kit

After the number of NGCI tags on hand luggage I have seen in the last few days, I have come to one of 3 conclusions:

1. The W in WP actually stands for Wanker with a capital W or,
2. Many WP's actually use their NGCI tags as beer coasters and hanging them from their carry on is just a handy spot to have them when an emergency beer coaster needed arises, or
3. The W in WP actually stands for Wanker with a capital W

Why on earth would you hang a NGCI tag from hand luggage? It has me stumped...!

[Footnote: Insert any status in the WP field however, leave the remaining W's]

;)

:)

So .. a pax with two tagged items of hand luggage falls into both 1. and 3., yeah? ;)

Strange as it may seem, maybe there are a few deviates out there who use the NGCI tag to identify their black bag among the sea of others? IOW, they're using the luggage tag as a ... luggage tag!

I was in the QP and J lounges last week and i couldn't believe how many SG and WP NGCI tags were there.. Mine are still sitting at home! I have no desire to put them on my hand luggage!

One question I'm not sure has been asked (I haven't read every page of this thread) is, are Qantas still issuing the identification tags that were issued in the past? Would make some sense since NGCI tags are designed for checked luggage.

+1, I prefer the old ones until the system is more widespread, I do have a tag on my large carry on but it's there for when I check it in, usually because it's overweight from the free hotel bottles of wine I keep getting.

+1 Mine are still sitting in the nicely ribboned pack they sent me.

I've taken the nice new card, but don't think the new tags are going to do anything for me on my Int run next week.........well, other than publicise my "W" status which I would otherwise have to act DYKWIA to achieve ;)

I posted posted my intention earlier and now I have received them it has come to pass.

My new RFID chipped WP tags are safely stored for use should I ever require more than the standard allowance 2x7kg bags of carry-on¹ when travelling on Domestic² services.

¹Golf Clubs come to mind
²Qantas Jet.

Heh, yeah, I saw quite a few in the BNE J Lounge yesterday. Very amusing.

My tags are also still at home, since I never check in at PER or SYD.

Err... I thought this was already discussed earlier in the thread :p

After using mine on my pack for the last trip I've moved it to the backside of my pack so it's partially hidden, but it is a bit weighty.

I'm not sure but I think the old tags may have also been designed for checked luggage, but I hope to get some SG ones when I hit SG by calling them up and requesting some.

Other airports support the baggage tags. In MEL they have a wand they wave over the tag. My bag got from MEL to SYD safely using the Q Bag Tag.

That’s good to know. I have a flight from MEL next week so I might be able to try it out… if I find some luggage to check :p

I do appreciate some, like yourself, like to keep a record of all flights taken, but it’s not exactly a consideration of theirs when trying to save money. Luckily you can still get a cardboard boarding pass in the lounge though.
And I did not say that the needed to consider my needs. Remember the saying "If it ain't broken, it does not need fixing"?

Anyway the change has already happened but I do not have to like it

Because you’ve also lost your bag, and when/if they find it, there’s no tag on it ;)
A tag can easily go missing/damaged/stolen without the actual luggage going missing. So how do you prove that the tag's demise was caused by the baggage handling process and it is not lost? I do not expect to be paying any money to replace tag when it is clearly not my fault.

I have not bothered to read all of this thread nor have I bothered to read all of the material sent by QF. So can one fly without a tag? I guess you will need to visit the service desk each time.

The check-in kiosks can print you a baggage label, which you can attach and take to the injectors.

Actually they probably are saving quite a lot. And you only need the piece of paper for the flight you are on.
Not quite right. You may not care but for a lot of people boarding passes are memorabilia. Just have a look around at how some people have a collection of boarding passes and proudly display them to anyone who is interested. I remember Anat0l and his huge 7 days of flying last year with about 33 flights.

Compare those boarding passes to the supermarket docket I got from DJ last night. Awful and not worth keeping and now I do not have a record of yesterday's flight other than an entry in an Excel file that is sitting on a hard disk in a dead computer.

That’s what backups are for, although I quite like FlightMemory too, though I rarely go back into it after my flights to update my seating allocation and rate the service.
