New Next Gen Card and Bag Tags have arrived!

Will let you know when Q Bag Tags go on sale - advice I have currently is that this will be soon.

Qantas Club Bronze Members do receive the new cards.

... but we don't receive bag tags like everyone else, we have to buy them, and on top of that we've lost domestic priority check in.

I'm pretty annoyed about that, and it's likely I won't renew my paid Qantas Club membership as a result. :(

A great way to annoy and lose customers and double shaft them. Take something away, and then rub salt in the wound some more.

The least Qantas could do, is give Qantas Club Bronze members a set of bag tags as compensation for losing domestic priority check in.

My gold kit turned up today so between the partner and I we now have 8 Q Bag Tags (4 gold and 4 silver) and the only luggage we have had to check in the past 6 months has been bike boxes :p

My new RFID tag got its first run on the weekend SYD-BNE-SYD, mixed results on the SYD-BNE leg, bag arrived and tag in tact but so much for priority with bag next to last to appear.
Better results on BNE-SYD leg, even allowing for a move to a earlier flight on checking in at BNE, bag arrived with tag in tact at Sydney and was in the first lot of bags to appear.

I see the CL members get different coloured bag tags from WPs - black with white logo.

We have 4 tags; 2 WP and 2 SG - they are sitting in a filing cabinet and are unlikely ever to be used.

Why?

The only thing I ever check domestically these days are golf clubs; as they are generally 'special luggage' there is no benefit at all to be had with these tags.

Of course, I could do the DYKWIA thing and add their weight and bulk to my carryon ... :p

So transferred in SYD Int to Domestic today.

Transfer desk didn't issue me a BP as I had my Q-card and bags were already tagged through. (had paper BP issued in SFO already, but kept it hidden in bag).

Dragon guarding the transfer bus wouldn't accept the Q-card to board the bus and insisted on paper BP.

Lately I’ve seen a few golf clubs come out on the carousel with the NGCI tags on them.

Maybe so, but being special luggage the tags may be as just as useful as putting them on one's carryon.

In MEL, you need to cart your Golf cubs up to special luggage handling after checking in; NGCI tags would not be relevant - nor would I use them for such.

After much waiting, my kit with PS and QP cards arrived today.

Only 2 tags for PS.

How many tags do you want? Surely most people don't travel with more than 2 checked bags per person?

At any rate, you are able (or will soon be able) to order additional tags.

Still waiting for NGCI card and tags here .......:(

I noted the No News article yesterday about the check in rage the new system is causing - supposedly!

  • Airport workers given mobile panic alarms
  • Passengers suffer "issues" with system

AIRPORT workers have been given panic alarms following a spike in confrontations with passengers following "issues" with Qantas' new automated check-in system.

The Australian Services Union (ASU) said many passengers have been left frustrated and outraged when trying to use the new technology, which Qantas began trialling at Perth Airport in July last year.

The trial involved 100,000 of the airline’s frequent flyers, asking them to be more hands-on in the check-in process – such as weighing their own bags.

ASU Federal Secretary Linda White said there have been “a lot of issues” with the new technology, which has led to an increase in incidents involving disruptive passengers.

My NGCI kit arrived last Thursday but I didn't get to the mail to check until today. It's left me quite disappointed in Qantas, and this might sound trivial, but the standard of packaging is pretty appalling.

My partner & I qualified a few weeks apart ... and here is the difference in the packages received. (Apologies for the poor quality photos)

The NGCI Kit my partner received only a month ago:

The NGCI kit I just received:

I'm not impressed, particularly as this is the first time I've qualified for WP and to have it sent out like this, with sticky-tape holding the back together because the envelope was too small for the contents, is pretty pathetic.

Yes I know the card & tags are still the same and in the end it makes no difference, but it's still disappointing. If they'd sent my Gold package out "early in 2011" like originally promised, I might have got the nicer kit with that, but seeing they were so slow I didn't even receive that at all.

It would probably make the most sense if they use the previous nicer style for WPs, but keep the newer "enhanced" style for PS.

Mine WP's and SWMBO's SG tags are sitting in the filing cabinet and are unlikely to be used ...

I guess: "As previously posted by me" ...

Wait Wait Wait....

Your card looks embossed? Have they gone back to doing that again, or is it just the picture...
