New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

I wonder if this route is making money for Qantas? Over the past month, loads have been regularly under 100 pax. I realise that this time of year outbound to Europe may not be as strong, however the numbers are pretty low. Example, this past Wednesday just 47 pax were on QF33 PER-CDG

Interesting… but can I ask where you are getting these numbers from?

I believe the flight is weight restricted… quite heavily so. But if the front two cabins go out quite full, you don’t need many in the main cabin!

I work at Perth airport. 47 is total pax including transit passengers and in all cabins. For comparison, QF9 on Wednesday was circa 180 pax so nothing to do with weight.

They are but still have a much higher load than QF33

The direct flights LHR/CDG - PER offer advantage of an evening/night arrival time for those on the Australian east coast; whereas the outbound PER-LHR/PER arrive crazy early which is a pain as you cant check into hotels for hours after your arrival.

I've done LHR-PER-SYD and would consider again whereas Id likely never go SYD-PER-LHR; as it offer no advantage over going via SIN as still arrive at the crack of dawn (and SIN has a better lounge and better timing to stretch ones legs).

If loads are that light on PER-CDG QF should consider W and Y sale to lift usage (im sure J isnt short of bums in seats).

Perhaps QF should codeshare on BA CDG-LHR, that would improve loads. Or on AF if BA doesn't want the business.

I can price PER-CDG-LHR return (using the BA code for the connection) on ITA Matrix but the QF website and google flights doesn't want to play ball so this might have some limitations.

Yes. If the figures quoted by @Gavros333 are correct ( and I have no reason to doubt that they are) , would seem to be a great opportunity for Qantas to say ‘Hey, we are releasing dozens of reward seats to Europe on Qantas metal … ‘

Very rarely weight restricted, only happens a couple of times.

Yes we are now in the annual travel slump.

Just had a look at SYD/LAX next week, QF has Y CR most days, some days has Y+, the AA flight has J.

That’s not uncommon year round. As you probably know, US airlines routinely release seats 1 or 2 weeks out if they’re not sold. 2x F seats are not uncommon.

Amazing that they don't make more reward seats available when the plane is 1/4 full.

Publicise a few points planes, make some extra money on carrier charges and help reduce that ever increasing points tally on their balance sheets.

Well there's 6 Y seats available on Wednesday.

And I'd be feeling pretty confident in getting a J upgrade if I was booked next week. In fact, I reckon a WP release would get approved.

I'd hate to be a party-pooper @Gavros333 , but if you work at Perth Airport, you have access to commercially-senstive information, which you probably should be careful what you share in a public forum. Pax numbers on flights is quite a commercially-sensitive topic - perhaps review your confidentiality clauses in your employment contract. Even the BITRE don't publish load factors on routes which can't be statistically greyed out.

I agree the SIN lounge is the X factor here.

They have that info on the TV screens in Customs which anyone can see going past. Aircraft rego, type, load etc
