New Qantas route - Perth to Paris from July 2024

Well, yesterday’s PER-CDG flight had 32 pax in Y. PE less than half full but J completely full.

Today’s CDG-PER has only 3 empty seats on the whole plane though.
And that is the risk taking the flight expecting to have a whole row to yourself.

They also said CDG airport was the worst they've ever been to

Clearly, they haven't been to Cairo.

I was at CDG a few weeks ago and made an off-the-cuff remark about its concentrically confusing design. The official said it was over fifty years old. It was designed in the sixties. The French are not the Japanese of Europe.

CDG T1 may be over 50 years old - and designed back in the 60s - with its central concourse and satellite terminals but T2 (where Qantas operate) is a child of the 80s. I find the whole sprawling mess of T2 and its differing means of accessing sub-terminals airside (let's not even go to transiting!) totally confusing.

It was definitely quiet on arrival last week. The immigration e-gates were <100m from the arrival gate, and as mentioned above, we were spat out landside pretty quickly.

I didn't find CDG to be that confusing either tbh. Stayed at one of the airport hotels, found the signage to the shuttle between terminals to be pretty easy to follow, and then the signage to the appropriate hotel as well.

The AF side of things, however, was a bit of a zoo.

I managed to find the Novotel at T3 on the first go - so I surprised myself.

I think you need to be a bit careful checking how many seats are sold in Y to ascertain viability of the direct flights to Eur.

Especially in winter, often loads in Y are light due to weight and fuel requirements. I caught QF9 in December, when I checked in Mel I was told it was 'full' and when rechecking in Perth was told only 40 pax in Y due to weather in Europe (offloaded pax were put on EK or QR ex Per) - so yes was a very enjoyable flight in Y as everyone nearly had a row to themselves...

Whilst Y may be offloaded, PE & J and freight are not...

Can it be profitable with a full J cabin and an empty Y?

QF33 PER-CDG cancelled tonight. Initially told delayed take off to 2300 but eventually cancelled by 2315. Wished they told us earlier as by then everyone is ready for sleep.

It’s now way past midnight and even though most of us are rebooked on EK flights the promised hotel has not eventuated so likely spent the night on airport chairs. I won’t be flying through Perth again to Paris… much more options for rebooking from SYD (home base). I think last Monday’s QF33 was cancelled too…

I was thinking the same. QF34 final leg PER - SYD was cancelled last Friday 21Mar due to electrical fault that they tried for hours to fix. Aircraft arrived into PER ex CDG with the fault reported. Seems like they are having issues with the/a 787.
I was the last pax to leave (after getting rebooked in the lounge). The exit was locked. Luckily, the QF crews were being attended to at the gate with a ground staff who was able to unlock and radio ahead for border control to still be manned, This swing gate international arrangement is not pax friendly outside the norm.
Hope QF organised your accommodation quickly enough to get some sleep.

Was rebooked onto EK but an hour later whilst waiting for accomodation, my seat on EK was cancelled (apparently EK refused to let QF have the seats). Ground staff couldn’t rebook me so have to ring 131313 to sort out my own flights… highly unsatisfactory.

Luckily was not on hold for long and was rebooked onto SQ which will probably be a better product. If they impress may end up switching over to KrisFlyer.

Finally got into hotel at 2am but needed to leave around 3.30am to check in for the SQ flight. The taxi voucher Qantas issue only allows for T3/4 drop off and pick up and SQ (as well as most of the other international airlines) fly out of T1 so had to pay out of own pocket. Will try to see if I can be reimbursed by Qantas

So QF can and will rebook pax onto carriers they don't code share with? This is helpful to know if I'm ever in a similar situation.

Even domestically, have been put on Virgin out of BNE to SYD after an overnight hotel. All because our QF flight missed the SYD curfew cutoff so it couldn't leave BNE.
That's harsh expecting you to ring the call centre to arrange your rebooking. Glad it ended up a positive for you. Should not be a problem getting reimbursed since it was QF that put you on SQ ex T1. Remember to claim you OR SC & points as well.
I hope you're enjoying your flight with free wifi as I type this.

The taxi voucher ...well that is interesting they would not allow it for T1. Kinda sums up QF. Hopeless....just like Perth airport! I'm sure you are on SQ now and having a good flight.

Probably only when their "bed partners" refuse QF pax!! 🤭

On SQ now. Loving the inflight wifi and service!

Qantas customer service was definitely lacking in all aspects last night (can’t believe the taxi voucher is limited to the domestic terminals considering it’s an international flight that was cancelled). Would’ve thought staff knew what to do given so many recent cancellations of QF33. I think almost half the rebooked flights were organised by the passengers themselves as everyone was ringing 131313. I had to queue and chase up the hotel vouchers multiple times. Felt sorry for those with young children - total mayhem and most didn’t leave airport till after 1am with some flights rebooked to depart at 6-7am, so won’t be much time for rest.

No better than US airlines where you are left to your own devices to sort out.
