How about “Listen to this, or you might die”.

These videos have progressively been becoming longer, and more marketing than being the safety device that they are supposed to be. Longer means that aircraft even miss take off opportunities at times. The important stuff is being drowned in pointless dross.

Love the nostalgia, the old uniforms and aircraft and the (at least two) requests to respect each other. Cudos to Qantas for the effort.

Oh no, not that Peter Allen song: I'll need my tissues at the ready! I remember flying back into SYD in the 80s and the CSM came on the PA with the standard "we are commencing our descent into Sydney......" then "I still call Australia home" was played. The ocular waterworks got a good work out then, and even to this day every time I hear that song I tear up (he said, reaching for the tissues having just watched the video).

I really like it. Some obvious places for good edits for in flight use (as always) but I thought it was very well done.. some thoughts:

1. The clothing and hairstyles changing through the ages was great. Katrina in the 80's/90's with her hair, chunky phone etc made me laugh.
2. The little things like ".. even e-cigarettes - whatever they are" is cute and somehow not cringey to me like the coffee stuff
3. While not surprising I don't really like the "safe and respectful cabin" PC stuff though sign of the times.. though the irony of that in the swinging 60's/70's cabin mockup with the funky music seems irronic somehow. So Kudos.
4. It tells a story while doing its job, not only of QF but by the end the young boy getting his wings to grow up to become a 787 pilot. Cute.
5. All the period-piece versions of I Still Call Australia Home are great.. and I can see myself enjoying those while sitting through the demo.
6. one thing I noticed - for the 787 video as posted no mention of sash belts for J? (that's been a usual thing in previous videos)

Over all a very good effort.. I look forward to seeing the cut down vids for use (I am not sure how much of the UNICEF stuff may stay, or the boy getting his wings for example) and I won't miss the current one when it's gone on Sunday

I would applaud any video that cut to the chase like this at the start!

I like it too. It reminds me of flying Qantas as a kid, and it's beautifully made.

I'm also so glad that I'll never have to hear that cringeworthy conversation about double shot coffee again. "Whiskey, sir? and "Would you care for some hot tea?" is a lot more civilised!

They had James Morrison play this live at the event. It was pretty special

I really like it and think very appropriate for the centenary year. Obviously needs some trimming for daily use.

I love the new video.

But I feel sorry for Bec. It's wasn't her fault a couple of blokes needed double shots after 10 too many beers the previous night and now she's been dumped. On the plus side, I'll take whiskey over coffee any day of the week.

Was good to be invited along yesterday with a few others. While we saw the "extended" version the shorter one is about 3 mins. And of course James Morrison was there blowing his trumpet as usual! Lol!!

You could say that and I reckon the same amount of people will still pay attenion to the briefing. THey are too busy with heads buried in their phones!

Nice video, well balanced between marketing & a trip down the memory lane & the basic safety instructions. I liked the little touches with being proper in the earlier times ("Would you care...") and the boy with the pin, and swipes about e-cigarettes and the guy in the background shrugging shoulders on the empty cigarette pack, etc.

One thing that does surprise me is that in the safety parts they seem to always slip in an error or omission. In the last video, the girl in Brighton on the slide said "lean forward" but the visuals were her leaning backwards. In this new one, at about 2:35 mark there's no mention of pulling the mask down but I recall jb747 clearly telling in another thread that the oxygen starts to flow only when you specifically pull the cord down after the masks have dropped. One would hope the safety components of the videos were 110% spot on and any vagueness would be in the marketing side of the films.

For those interested here's the video in Indonesian - an example of what it's like not in English. Doesn't really have the same feel and I'm sure some will be wondering what all the nostalgia's for considering the 100 years isn't really explained! (Note: video sometimes can't be seen depending on location, but it's on the Qantas FB page - maybe location-managed somehow)

Is this new video going to be just as bad as almost every "modern" safety video?
The only good safety video I can think of for the past 10 or so years is the JAL video

(updated late last year after the prior one was 13 years old)

Other then JAL, the only other good video I can recall is the 2014 AA video

Certainly not. Probably Darwin, on the way to Brisbane - most definitely not anywhere in Sydney.

The Q in Qantas does stand for Queensland, where Qantas began in 1920, and the "nt"for the Northern Territory, after all.
