New QF A380 reconfiguration!!!

Considering that most private jets have less toilets/passenger than QF F-cabin, I guess people should give up their private aircraft and fly QF to avoid potential queue to the loo!:D

Seriously, the amount of condemnation QF could have avoided by just adding/keeping one more bathroom for the J cabin. That's what happens when accountants get involved in running an airline.
Indeed!

How often are corporate or private jets filled to capacity? At my company, those in the upper echelons who fly the company jet often do so with only two or maybe four passengers.

You are totally right re: corporate jets being mostly empty and they are often used to reach small airports with no scheduled service in the middle of nowhere (e.g mines in Kazakhstan). I was just trying to be a bit sarcastic... because when I get upgraded to F I only think about 5 to 8-course meal and comfortable bed; the number of toilets in the aircraft is not my priority when I get to drink good cognac and champagne. But that's just me :) And I always change back to my clothes before the breakfast service, so I'm never part of the pyjama stampede before landing

Well I've finally booked my first A380 flight a couple of weeks ago to see what it's like. QF127 in PE to HKG for this Thursday returning Sunday morning. Was auto assigned 24A in both directions which looks like a great seat. Seems to be a V2 plane. Today I noticed my seat selection for my Thursday flight had changed by itself to 34A. All good though, looks like V1 plane change. At least I now get to suss out the differences.

On another note, I have to now figure out what to do in Hong Kong for two days :p

Well I just got hit by one of the annoyances of this reconfig work. I had upstairs seats in Y selected but I've now been kicked downstairs into random seats and can no longer do seat selection for that flight. :(

That does suck!

I'm hoping that my Y seat for Mar stays with the new config!

Alternatively - I have my J/F award seat alerts set as a backup plan ;)

I had the same circumstance - I was able to snare a seat by calling.

Also, further selection was available when OLCI'ing.

Can a PS call up and ask for better seats in J? There is bugger all available online and I don't really want to leave it too late to snag good seats.

I would call between T-43 and T-23 when I presume most J to F upgrades have been processed and some good seats in Emerald city are made available.

Not to mention the fact is wrong, most private jets have a sub 10 passenger capacity, with Cessna and Lear models still very much dominating the landscape, the GLEXs and Gulfstreams by comparison can carry a lot more but are fewer in number, they have over representation locally simply because they have the legs to get here, not because they are common across the world, and most have two bathrooms once config exceeds 10 seats anyway.

I'd also start looking a week out at T-80 as the zoned seat map tends to open up somwhat - then keep looking as per defurax's advice.

I had flights SYD-LAX last week and LAX-MEL this week in the new config. The upstairs exit row 35 were the best seats in an A380 Y that I've sat in. 35K a new favourite due to the space down the side of the seat for bags (not during takeoff/landing).

I still maintain however that exit row seats shouldn't cost for a WP.

Upside - heaps of leg room, quieter, no bassinets.

Downside - no CSM visit either way, uncomfortable seats, a lot more lateral movement during turbulence, one toilet for the cabin. Also international J catering is noticeably worse than last time I flew Qantas internationally (October).

I had 86H on QF12 recently & I felt that (compared to the 744 which I did on QF7 in May) it was easier to stretch your legs out further under the seat in front of you. My seat didn't have a foot net but I found putting a couple of pillows on the floor was a good footrest & was still able to sleep for probably about 6 hours.

Despite being the last row of whY on the right hand side the seat had full recline however between one third and half of the leg room is taken up by the comms box for the IFE.

I'm not sure if that comms box is in the aisle seat in every row in front of "H" seats or whether it's only left hand side as well but looking across the aisle there didn't appear to be one in front of the "G" seats in the center bank of 4. I would avoid a seat that had a comms box in front of it given the choice.

There would only have been a handful of spare seats in whY however I found I never had to queue for the loos down the back which were always clean and tidy.

Where are people getting all these pillows? Everyone keeps talking about using extra pillows but I've never seen a spare pillow anywhere!

...
I find spare pillows on my shadow seat :p (well that's the case the last two times).

From people like me who get rid of the pillow as soon as they reach their allocated seat ;)

Actually, I find the pillow far more useful by reclining the seat and putting it at the base of the seat.

That way it helps support me when I endeavour to get an "angled" sleep.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

On returning to my seat after a leg stretch I noticed a spare pillow discarded behind row 86 so I grabbed it. In whY you don't put the pillow behind your head as you feel like you're in the brace position & there are winglets on top of your head rest that bend around to keep your head in position which is comfortable.

It's possible the girl sitting in 86J didn't want it or it may have been the pillow for her 'shadow' in 86K as the seat itself was a handy place to 'stow' all her carry on despite plenty of overhead locker space not to mention under both the seats in front of her which didn't have comms units encroaching on the space.

Not that I'm complaining but I did wonder why anyone would choose to stay in the middle seat when moving to the window would've given both of us both elbow room particularly on a 14 hour flight.

A spare car at home? Why not go all-out like this FTer who hires a chase car to follow him to the airport in case of bad traffic or an accident:

Also see this more detailed post from the same FTer. Sounds great if you've got the cash.

Excellent...but I can't see why he wouldn't have bought tickets for each day surrounding his flight, and used multiple helicopters to get to the airport. Or just go the day before and stay in an airport hotel.
