Excellent...but I can't see why he wouldn't have bought tickets for each day surrounding his flight, and used multiple helicopters to get to the airport. Or just go the day before and stay in an airport hotel.
Maybe there was only one hotel room available, and no spares so he didn't want to risk it.

if you were travelling as a pair and had the choice of 35e & f (new configuration) or 80j & K which would you go for? one pax is 6'1" and the other 5'5"

Welcome to AFF.:D

35E/F have plenty of space, but will cost the exit row selection fee. The lack of legroom in 80J and the large space for 80K needs to be balanced against that cost - with one at 158cm I'd save the $$$.

Thanks for the photo TheInsider.

I just re-allocated into seat 32A for my QF1 flight tomorrow. All the regular good seats in rows 50, 71D, 79's were already taken months back so I had then allocated myself 71G (with the hope that 71F was vacant, it still is vacant at tonight's seat selection). Anyway, will see how 32A goes, looks like a nice bulkhead with storage for my ipad, headphones etc :)

Some pics of the upper deck, sorry about the quality:

Great seat & position.. Thanks for the photo reference.

I have booked a QF flight from MEL-LHR return via Dubai next September and have the selection of 80A, 80K, 71D or the upper level 32A. I've travelled in the old A380 config before in both rows 71 & 80 which were good, but should I select all my flights as the upper deck in row 32? Or, should I try out 32 and stick with an old 80A favourite?

80A/K are fantastic seats. But perhaps 32AB/JK are good too? The upper deck might be more private?

Upper deck is more private, and 32 would be a good pair for a couple travelling together

Travelling to the US next year on QF093/094 (in Y unfortunately), first time on the A380 with the new upper deck configuration. I have the choice of 80K downstairs, but was wondering about the upper deck. Row 34 D-G are available and 36 F, J and K. Seat Guru shows these as Premium Economy seats. Is that correct? Should I give upstairs a go or stick to 80K?

They are still Y seats. I'd go with 80K if legroom is an issue.

Thanks, just been reading the last 40 pages of this thread, it's a lot clearer now. Rather than paying for an UD exit row I might opt for downstairs. I also have the choice of 71D on one leg as well as 80K. Leg room on LH sounds a better choice than the small UD cabin.

This thread explains why my points upgrade to F (5A) was a complete waste of points: it was the noisiest premium seat I have ever had: I wanted the upgrade to get a good noght's sleep: instead kept being woken up by talk and got off very tired and ineffective at work. Yet another QF 'enhancement'. Also removing loos from a long haul flight is just stupid. Y pax don't like queues that go on forever, premium pax expect short/no queues as one of the things they pay (a lot of money) for.

Add this to flight via middle east, no improvemment into arr times in LHR or MEL and almost no longhaul flights from MEL there are now even fewer reasons to fly QF. Other airlines offer better schedules, better seat/loo ratios and more choice of destination.

Until QF MX start listenign to PAX they will not succeedi n making QFi profitable.. or is this the plan?

What's changed for F pax? I thought the changes were only upstairs.

I am still trying to figure that for myself? It is funny there was more talk of this config being a disaster before it was actually put into service compared to after.

I don't actually get what the issue with a Middle East (DXB) transit point is? It seems that some will find any reason to be negative. Hasn't the reshuffle of flights opened up more international flights from MEL and SYD? Pity the same can't be said for PER (at one stage the 3 international flights they had arrived at 00:40, 4:45 and 4:55).

I understand that there is some PAX do not feel the love currently, however there is a fine line between balancing the needs of the PAX and the needs of the business.

...
It was more the process originally conceived for row 48 PAX were maybe more relevant to "disaster" than the subsequent modification of the process. There is still the issue of reduced lavatories per passenger.

Aside from that, I have been in 50C and 51C on the original configuration several times and on occasion there has been quite the noisy get-together by FA's congregating in the Galley between First and Economy and having a good old chat.

Well it's not as if they can go downstairs to the crew rest area to chat - the people down there are trying to sleep! :p

Rows 48 and Row 49 were added to the front of Y.
... also a galley area was removed to accommodate this.

It all makes Economy closer to 5A and, with the lack of galley providing less noise abatement (presuming economy noise is inferior to first noise.:p).

Make the left hand side of first less appealing, but I guess it evens up the desirability of all F seats (apart from 5A!)

I had 5K LAX-MEL in October. It can sometimes get noise from crew closing galley locker doors on the other side of the wall.
