New Zealand Introduces 14 Day Quarantine for All Arrivals

Waiting to see how QF will deal with this in respect of existing bookings.

Me too, hopefully if there are cancellations I can rebook for when things die down later in the year. Wonder if the SST will proactively contact me... I’m not holding my breath.

I suspect travel insurance won't cover it (will check my policy tomorrow) since it isn't an outright travel ban.

Anyone hearing anything from anyone about similar border control/isolation for Oz?

Edit: Spelling/grammar

Hi, could I have some advice as I’m a bit confused about my next move. Booked reward Eithad points on Virgin Melbourne to Queenstown. Booked in November. depart 23/3 for 18 days. Was using ANZ Platinum cc insurance via Allianz... doesn't cover Covid 19. I don’t think I’m covered for anything with that insurance? (Can anyone confirm) Given Australian and now NZ government stance can I clarify the following:
*who do I contact (virgin or Eithad) to cancel/change? Do I have a choice of cancel/change?
*will this incur fees/costs?
*have some non refundable accommodation? What (if any ) is Our rights with this (have been reading heaps of sites and someone did mention something about consumer rights?..now can’t find it .) Grovel, Refund, rebook or bad luck?
*some of this accommodation has been booked direct and some via Agoda/hotel.com. Do I contact direct or via travel site?
thank you in advance for any help/suggestions.
if this is info is answered elsewhere (sorry) but could you direct me where to look. Cheers

Looking at the "Self Isolate" page I wonder how they'd treat a status run with a short turnaround? Fly in, transit (or isolate overnight at hotel) and fly out.
Probably just work on the 14 days in that hotel room? 😳

The "Self Isolation" Policy is interesting:

I'll say. From your link:

Self-isolation means staying away from situations where you could infect other people. This means any situation where you may come in close contact with others (face to face contact closer than 1 metre for more than 15 minutes), such as social gatherings, work, school,

So I could basically still take a self drive holiday, nipping in and out of supermarkets and take aways for sustenance.

Perhaps a little too cheeky ... “ nipping in and out of supermarkets and take aways”. 😀

Interested to see if New Zealand 'bans' Australian citizens..... What about those who have spent their whole lives in New Zealand and are not "genuine" Australians? Wait- this sounds familiar...

Residents are usually excluded in most policies, or so-called "bans" - with the proviso they self-isolate.

Could be a risk of denied boarding for the flight to NZ - since you obviously couldn't comply with self-isolation. That said, who knows? The new rule isn't yet in place.

I presume this doesn't include those just transiting in the airport????

So daughter and hubby coming back for wedding next weekend and a few weeks in April a no go.
Wife is very self conscious of a cough she is struggling to overcome that she acquired on our South Island holiday last month.

The NRL are looking at basing the NZ Warriors in Australia temporarily.
Id imagine though that other sporting comps like Super Rugby or the A-League will just shut down

Welcome to AFF, Sunday horse. A port in a COVID storm! Lets see if eny experts disagree with me, but here goes...
*who do I contact (virgin or Eithad) to cancel/change? Do I have a choice of cancel/change?
As it's Etidad points, I'd try them first and find out what they say. Emphasise you have been effectively locked out by NZ Govt - force majeure.
There are as many policies as there are airlines.

*will this incur fees/costs?
See what they say. There are so many cancellations on so many airlines and so mny different policies soit's impossible to keep up.

*have some non refundable accommodation? What (if any ) is Our rights with this (have been reading heaps of sites and someone did mention something about consumer rights?..now can’t find it .) Grovel, Refund, rebook or bad luck?
Check with the booking provider. many are offering cancellations As above, you've been effectively locked out of NZ

*some of this accommodation has been booked direct and some via Agoda/hotel.com. Do I contact direct or via travel site?
Whoever you booked with

Cheers skip

VA initially published the following alert on their website:
We are aware of new travel restrictions announced by the New Zealand Government and are assessing our response.

Now updated to:
We are aware of new travel restrictions announced by the New Zealand Government today. We are working on a policy for guests with existing bookings and will advise shortly.

More details published on the VA website:
Currently, we plan to operate all Virgin Australia flights to and from New Zealand until 22 March 2020 and expect to then reduce services.

We understand these restrictions may affect guests’ travel plans. Virgin Australia guests with bookings to New Zealand from now until 30 June 2020, who no longer want to travel, have the option to change their flight to a later date and/or to a different destination, without incurring a change fee. They are also eligible to receive credit to a Travel Bank with no cancellation fee.
