New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Fortunately I have no relatives / family in NZ and my last OS trip before lockdown was a 2 week drving holiday around the South island so I have no immediate desire to go back to NZ atm ;)

The article looks old

Ardern says New Zealand not ready to open up Trans-Tasman bubble

Another bubble delay, can't say I am surprised even though I really want to visit my friends in NZ:

Edit: Given now the two-way bubble will be on a state-by-state level, will the AU government allow people to travel to NZ without special permission? The two-way bubble will be moot for Australians if you need a special permission to travel as they are awfully hard to get.

So an announcement will be made on the 6th of April. They didn't state if April was still going to happen but let's assume it is.

Air NZ has been selling flights from 19 April (obviously this could move) but at this stage, it looks like sometime around 19 April to the end of the month. It'll be interesting to see if Qantas, Jetstar, or Virgin starts selling flights soon or if they wait until a fixed date (possibly being caught out by short notice).

Australia has removed the travel ban to NZ last night apparently

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she will reveal a date for the start of a new trans-Tasman travel bubble on April 6.

"We don't have a date for you," Ms Ardern said in a news conference.

She said more time was needed to set up the final framework of an agreement and determine arrangements such as contact tracing measures and managed isolation facilities.

Last night the federal government amended the legislation relating to Australia's travel ban to exclude people flying to New Zealand, paving the way for the travel bubble.

Previously Australians had to apply for an exemption to travel anywhere overseas, including New Zealand.

Qantas said they won't make a decision until a firm date is given. Virgin said they are planning still for June 16th, but I am sure they can easily bring that forward.

I am sure QF/JQ probably have a schedule all ready to publish. They won't be mucking around behind the scenes.

Personally in recent times, Adern's attitude and public statements on the supposed bubble reflect poorly on her and her government.

NZ have had a steady stream of quarantine leakage's, the same as Australia and yet she expects NZ to be the beneficiary of a one way travel bubble. To rub salt into the wound she then criticised Australia for bringing back restrictions on passengers from NZ, but refused point blank to rescind them for people travelling to NZ from Australia. That is a serious lack of integrity.

I’m eagerly awaiting the next announcement. 😉

Unlike the govt 🙁

Despite NZs posturing for the last year, their behaviour suggests they are in no hurry to have a Trans Tasmabn bubble...so let's move on and discuss something else.... Australia’s international travel ban lifted for New Zealand, Ardern to announce deal details
Not sure why we should move on.....this topic is NZ bubble, another ‘step’ towards a bubble; now we are three quarter there lol

*NZ will let us travel to Australia, Australia will let us travel to NZ, we can travel from NZ to Australia quarantine-free (* assuming no more nefarious covid leakages into the community lol)

Something that some of us should move on from is the denial of QF WP arrival access (which was denied for some weeks) but seems to be not happening anymore for a few weeks now....lol, the thread is still kicking along.
