New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Is the travel bubble between NZ and Qld still intact? If so, they quarantine free travel Qld-NZ still applies. They just recently re-instated Vic.
I don’t get your point. Why do they feel the need to say Norfolk Island is still on but don’t talk about Queensland or Victoria?

They are obviously confused - I checked their website and the Norfolk Island comment is under the NSW heading.

Well as I am not the NZ Gov I cannot really answer you question.

However Qld and Vic are QFT with NZ currently, and so need to exclude either as is permitted. And looking at the NZ website they only mention with their own sections the following:

and so quite possibly Norfolk Island is just too small to mention with its own section and so they for whatever reason added the sentence in there. There sentence as written is not inaccurate.

And NSW doesn't want them any more.
QLD has already signed the agreement with the Commonwealth to take over responsibility for Norfolk Island.
In true Norfolk style the islanders want a seat in the QLD parliament.Teh right for just over 1700 people.

NSW already has Lord Howe. We don’t need two islands especially one that is politically difficult… 🤣

My upcoming trip to NZ tomorrow is now being rebooked because the bubble is suspended. Should the fact that I am fully vaccinated not count for anything in these travel bubble suspensions?

It should shortly, as soon as the vulnerable are vaccinated then yes fully vaccinated people should be free to do so - it was discussed at national cabinet.

However ‘shortly’ could be in 500 years at the pace the vax rollout is going in AU. NZ have no idea how they are going.

Same. 'Going at glacial pace' is a kind way to put it. Imho- the vaccine ordering and roll out is a major f%$& up by both governments. The ONE job that matters, and they both failed big time.

Are you suggesting that Lord Howe is NOT politically difficult?
They know the role of the LHI Board and aren't being uppity like Norfolk, demanding seats in the state parliament. LHI are already represented through Port Macquarie state division (where the Island Trader comes from).

In true Norfolk style they ignore the fact that it's an external territory, not part of Qld at all
The Queensland government will add Norfolk Island to its tourism portfolio...

Beautiful one day, Norfolk the next :)

Cheers skip

Doesn't NZ have more fully vaccinated though than Australia based on the % of the population?
Yep- that's right from what I have read. A higher proportion of Aussies though had at least one shot- it's only the full vaccinations that NZ has been better somehow. Also important to bear in mind is that's there only one vaccine type used here in NZ which is the Pfizer/Biontech one. No AZ or Moderna as far as I am aware.

Because of the difference in the brands. Pfizer only requires 3 weeks between shots whereas the AZ requires 3 months. There are many Australian's now waiting to have the 2nd AZ.

Regardless, when traveling across the Tasman they couldn't care about vaccination status (although maybe they should), and for what it's worth the Australian who had a weekend in Wellington has had a first shot.

If you did not want to discuss the topic which you raised to me, then perhaps don't quote me and then ask a question.
Just because I quote you doesn’t mean I’m asking you the question (which wasn’t a question anyway, more an observation they’d made a weird comment about Norfolk Island) It isn’t a DM, a reply is not mandatory if you have nothing to add.

I’ve had both pfizer shots but for what it’s worth I wasn’t asked anything about vaccinations on my short trip to Christchurch over the weekend. My temperature was checked on arrival in CC, 36.8, but that was all.

I'm fully vaccinated and haven't had to show it anywhere yet (either in AU or NZ). I've flown across the Tasman a bit (3 times into CHC) and then yesterday into Auckland and they're still more interested in fruit than they are in someone's health.

It was the strangest experience yesterday as a Melbourne flight had just arrived (noting that was a green return flight before the midnight opening to all), all passengers were being funneled into a manual processing queue but I knew better and told the person I'd come from Brisbane. They seemed shocked (obviously didn't realise the BNE flight had arrived) and then said that I could use the smart gate, that person then moved over to the roped-off smart gate area and proceeded to call for Brisbane passengers a few had joined the big queue but most were behind as I was one of the first off the flight.

In Brisbane both times I arrived they checked everyone's temperatures. In Sydney last month, NSW health staff were too busy playing on their phones (no joke). In Christchurch temperature checking was random (probably about one in 10/15 people) and in Auckland, they were only interested in the Melbourne flight (checking all from Melbourne but none from Brisbane).

Another interesting thing was arriving in Auckland I put my Australian mobile number on the form, they actually asked if my phone plan is compatible with roaming for tracing purposes. It's a good question, one they should ask more, and something I haven't been asked in Christchriuch nor have I seen Australian officials asking Kiwis upon arrival into Australia.
