New Zealand Travel Bubble Announcement

Yep- bookable, but it says "Managed isolation required unless transiting".

I think that's the return flight - if you click on it, it says:
Passengers need to register for managed isolation accommodation prior to flying to New Zealand. Learn more.

Probably just to warn Kiwis flight out one way

@Berlin do you think the seats will sell out fast? Not sure whether I should book now or wait for more flights to be added.
@Mattg I've just booked for the 5th November. I don't want to risk it and once people find out about this (besides out cosy forum here that is), I could very well imagine the first flights to sell out fast. But yes, there will most likely be more flights added during the week- Friday 5th actually works perfect for me

I've just booked on NZ753 on 5 November as well. (I'll be in 37A.)

My thanks to @justinbrett also!

Just booked onto 14th November. Unfortunately I can't book onto the 5th November flight from Wellington. I assume it's because they don't have a Wellington to Auckland flight that morning, annoyingly.

Well, at least in Wello you should be safe from another Lockdown. That's my biggest fear here in Auckland, that we're suddenly go back to a crazy level 4 "circuit breaker snap lockdown". And just ask some Melbournites what they think of "short snap lockdowns"...

Something tells me that might be left over from last year. The last time they were using NZ7xx series numbers was when there was oneway flights from AKL to SYD last year and at the time that same message appeared on the website for those flights.

Actually, I had a look at their schedule and it looks like there's the usual hourly WLG -> AKL flights from 6am onwards in November.
In that case, I have no idea why it doesn't let me connect onto the 5th, 7th, and 12th flights

You can book a multi stop WLG-AKL on the 4th and then AKL-SYD on the 5th. Even under level 4 rules they allow travel from WLG-AKL and then overnight near AKL airport before flying out of the country the next day.

The price is the same and because changes are free you could call to change to this option for free but would have to supply your own overnight accommodation near Auckland Airport.

EDIT : You can even book a multi stop WLG-AKL-SYD on the 5th.

Worth also adding that if AKL is still in lockdown and travel is restricted then there are typically only one-two flights per day from WLG to AKL, an A320 at 10:45am (arrives 11:50am) and sometimes an ATR at 9am arrives 10:15am. Neither of these meet MCT requirements so an overnight stay would be required anyway.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for the information

I'll think about it, although it is a bit more expensive (NZ$930 vs. NZ$630 for my booking). I think I grabbed the last cheap business fare bucket, or there's special fares when originating from Wellington.

Just got an email from the Australian High Commission in Wellington advising that seats are now available on Air NZ. I bet they'll now be gone in 3... 2... 1...

Bizarrely, there is also now an NZ AKL-SYD flight on sale on 31 October. I wonder if Air NZ got the memo about NSW reopening on 1 November? 🧐

Got the email too. It specifically states

> This option will only be available to Australian citizens and Permanent Residents.

Which is not good news for me. In the past, the language has always been "Australian citizens, permanent resident or New Zealand citizens usually resident in Australia" (such as here), which has been the case for using Hotel Quarantine etc.

Hopefully this is an oversight and New Zealand citizens usually resident in Australia are actually included in this arrangement. I've contact the high commission to see if they know any more.

Well so far Air NZ has put on 8 flights from AKL-SYD in November as these 787's have 275 seats it means 2200 seats will be available inbound into NSW. Obviously with no caps it also gives them the ability to put on more flights as required.

Compare all this to the month of September the allocation was just 250 seats (with ~45 into NSW). October was ~200 seats (with 0 into NSW).

But interesting that they don't make it daily- must have learnt a lesson there. So pricing will surely go up for those flights over the next couple of days. I'm glad to have booked it all in!

It's now sold out in Y. It also remains the first flight, so your gamble paid off.

I'm expecting there to be some more flights added in to meet demand.

Air New Zealand has been running almost daily 787 flights for the past 3+ months as NZ1103 or NZ1105. Obviously these have been cargo only services but now there is nothing stopping them adding cabin crew and selling these services as well. In fact from December these will be almost daily flights and are already up for sale.
