An update NZ. There is another case of covid in the community and there appears to be lots of confusion, distraction and a bit of "dont care any more" attitude.
We have had a weekend of elections and rugby. The weather was fine, everybody is out and about with only a few wearing masks and no social distancing. I have to admit I only logged on to the covid tracker for 2 shops over the weekend, as I forgot. The masses going into Bunnings didnt seem to be stopping at the door to check in, nor at the supermarket. Any contact tracking is going to be difficult.
For we have seen COVID, we have fought on the beaches, we have fought on the landing grounds, we have fought in the fields and in the streets. And we have won. Life has returned to normal. The elections over and the All Blacks have won.
But there is a small glitch. A marine electronics engineer has tested positive for Covid. He lives in Auckland and works for ports of Auckland who have a branch port in New Plymouth. He may have caught it on a ship that is now on the way to Brisbane, but there is no way to tell for certain. He has been having regular testing, got symptoms and had another test immediately and came back covid positive. He was staying at a motel in New Plymouth and then traveled back to his family in Auckland.
The ministry of health and the minister are saying nothing to see here, no issues, no problemo.
At then moment there is no indication of new covid restrictions. But it is a concern and shows again how quickly things can change.
And hypothetically, who would want to be the official in WA that let in a kiwi who was in the household of a newly detected case?
