Next Generation Check In

I can snap some tomorrow night if you like.

Sounds good :p. Thanks!

They are now using the IBM kiosks for the check-in bit, so different program and different set up compared to the traditional kiosks. Also the new ones from what i've been told have a 'fast-tracked' thing built in. Won't ask as many questions depending on who you are and your FF status.

Also can you report on the ease of use for the bag-drop area?

Unfortunatey I'll be carry-on only, so the only time I'll use my card is when I board...

So are you using OLCI or MOCI first then, rather than the tap at the pole?

At the Gate, does the reader detect on the RFID chip or are they (as posted earlier in this thread) using the barcode.
(which in effect means that for people who use OLCI to select the best seats that the card does not add anything new)

OLCI first, although I have already selected a good seat as T-80 has passed.

They are currently scanning the barcode that is on the back of the card.

The one step it does save me is having to print out my BP from the kiosk outside the QP, as a receipt is printed at the gate instead.

Is the barcode on the new card the same format (or number) as the old.
(Does this mean we could have been doing this for months?)

I don't think so, as the barcode on your card wouldn't have been linked through to your booking.

Well, it appears I was wrong.

An update - when entering the QP I was asked for my boarding pass. I mentioned I had OLCI'd and was going to just tap my card / have the barcode scanned at the gate. I was told that if OLCI I still had to tap my card. Ok... we now know that for next time.

Upon checking my booking a BP was printed and into the lounge I went.

The Wifi here is super slow. Slower than normal, only took me 10 minutes to do this post

The bloke lining up in the third pic for the bag injector looks like he has a heavy plastic box of sorts.

Let's hope for his sake the injector accepted it. It's one thing having a human and possible discretion of 1 or 2 kg. It's another thing having a machine and (if you're lucky) a possible discretion of 0.5 kg or 1 kg.

thanks for those pics, seems like a good system (sorta looks sexy??!)

Although thought everything would've been a little larger as in size of injectors.

Went to use the new system. Touched the screen with my card and got a message saying "see service counter"...

Went to service counter and they said that check-in has closed for the flight 2 minutes ago (I got there about 30 mins before the flight).

I said I that I only had carry-on, so they "allowed" me to check in after a great fuss, the old fashioned way...

Oh well

JOBU

Thanks for taking the time to post them :)

I love the design of the poles... Do they make any sound at all when you swipe?

If the NGCI preview videos are anything to go by, a successful tap is supposed to yield two short beeps, not dissimilar to a supermarket item scanning beep (but a little shorter).

Now as for an unsuccessful tap, no idea. They never seem to demonstrate what happens if things go wrong.....

In this month's Qantas in flight magazine it states that as more cities have it rolled out, cards will be replaced including QP cards ; hooray.
