Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I mentioned upthread an Assyrtiko, the indigenous wine of Santorini, and lamented that I hadn't seen any Sigalis Assyrtiko in Australia as it is generally recognised as the best.

Well, I discovered it at boutique wine shop in PER. Had a glass and a half pre-dinner tonight.

Note the 14.5% alc. Pretty hefty, but it's handled well. (Ahem - I suspect that's one of the secondary reasons why I so enjoyed the experience of my whole bottle with a whole grilled fish on the sea-front at Oia ;).)

A quick rummage at the Sigalis website shows three Assyrtikos: This one is the upper tier of the two classic versions, while there is a barrel-fermented version that I suspect would be quite rare and unlikely to be found in Australia.

I think this wine would really throw the cat among the pigeons in a wine options or a blind 'bring along something white' tasting (hint, Daver6 ;).)

Did you see these three, available in Oz? There's also a blend on the same site.

What did you think of the ice Moet? I put ice in my cask wine not my champagne... don't know if it's worth paying extra (than NV Moet) to put ice in it?? but I'm interested in your thoughts as you have actually tried it :)

I've not tried it personally....but from those who have. Just buy some cheap, sweet sparkling instead.

Daver6 the Moet Ice was given to me by someone who works for Moet Hennessy. It held great novelty value at the party but I wouldn't pay 80 bucks a pop for it. Needless to say the girls in attendance rated it highly (after the preceding 10 bottles;)). I'd rather 2 bottles of the Mumm (or Moet) NV for the same money which is what I bought. Or with dessert, a sticky. Or for dessert a Rocky Black! The Majella seemed a better option at this stage of precedings!

The Amy's was still tight, bright fruit, clear meniscus etc. I wouldn't be in a hurry. Maybe have another look in 3-4 years.

Bru, you can't use your Reidel Cabernet glass for every wine. Time you bought a 'proper' Pinot glass, QF WP! :)

Since QF WP only has one Reidel glass, maybe we should take up a collection and buy him a set of the Kiwi themed Reidel glasses that UpInTheAir has recently revealed?

P.S. Don't stress everyone.. I immediately poured this into an appropriate wine tool after taking the photo. :)

Last night my wine club met. Theme was a vertical of Howard Park Riesling spanning 2014 to 2001 with the 2012 missing. These were generously provided by one of the members. Another also happened to have a magnum of the Howard Park 1994 Cabernet Merlot. This was a stunning wine and very right bank Bordeaux like in my opinion. The 2005 Riesling was voted wine of the night.

We also had a special guest from AFF. JohnM was able to join us :) Also, all labels were removed from the wine glasses ;)

A great night - thanks for the invitation Daver6 :D. The red was sensational with dinner (I had the scotch fillet - rare).
