Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Buzzard, was the 2011 Basket Press on tasting, and if so, how was it? Interested to know how they managed this difficult vintage.

It was. I thought it was pretty darn good. They did explain that they have their own picking team who goes out and handpicked only the best fruit.

Yeah but we're they virgins, that definitely makes a difference (or so I am assured by the marketeers).

Yes, the 2011 was available for tasting and purchase. It was a bonus that a few back vintages were also made available to us so a chance to compare. The oldest was a 1999.
The 11 was certainly a different style BP to previous vintages. I thought it looked lighter in colour, was not the big gutsy Shiraz like previous vintages and had a peppery finish. I actually quite liked it. Lindi did mention that the alcohol is lower this vintage but as I don't have any on hand I can't tell you the %. Might I suggest it won't cellar as long as previous years. I purchased some and do recommend it. One of the things I will certainly enjoy in 5 or 6 years time is having the 2011 in a flight of BP's and appreciating the variation.

And remembering when and where you first sampled it, Buzz! :)

Ah yes, Rockford:

So fortunate to have tasted them and have 3 more to add to my collection (plus the Alicante I won).

Was a standout winery and in the words of a famous actor: "I'll be back". Put my name down for joining something as well.

For a while in the 1990s I think they closed the mailing list as they couldn't keep up with the demand. In Robert O'Callaghan's words:

Don't tell anyone about Rockford wine! It'll only mean your allocation will drop.

I think that horse has well and truly bolted!

Only 3 bottles?

My 3 cases will be dispatched after my next couple of trips.

I ordered a mixed case and now forget quite what's in it (I know there is Basket Press). My two bottles of SVS Flaxman Valley Shiraz made it home safely in my carry-on and have settled in nicely with the rest of my reds.
Cheers Buzz :)

We somehow ordered 16 bottles

And now you've left me alone in the "bad glass" stakes! ;)

I'm certainly looking forward to the bottle I won (and we are getting some Riedel glasses at the Epiqure event this week).

What did you think?

IMHO as a $19 wine, this one punches well above it's weight. I have a few in cellar. According to TF it will cellar for 10 years or more.

A well selected wine QF WP, I'm sure you enjoyed it.

As smooth as I recall and surprising for its age - I wanted to make sure. The second bottle will be consigned to my cellar. Oaky on the nose and mid strength tannins. Comfortable that it will cellar well for a couple of years. A solid B in my rating

Shaw and Smith Pinot masterclass in Brizvegas last night - interesting wines - 3 burgundies, 3 kiwi, and 4 from oz.. and got to meet another AFFer..Sedimental!! very good dinner downstairs at Tartufo after the tasting.
