Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Decided that it was time for a local beer to go with the local oysters...

Quite nice mellow ale.

You had my mouth watering after seeing that oyster photo TheRealTMA....now I need to go home, play my indoor beach volleyball tonight, de-sand myself with a shower and settle back with some cheese and a red...decisions ;)

TheRealTMA, I love oysters and wine. After extensive research and 20 years of "oyster parties" at a great friend's annual event, a Sancerre is our favourite vinus accompaniment to an au naturel oyster. Beer goes admirably with most other derivations, esp. Japanese style oysters.

I'm sure Singo would agree  No Cookies | dailytelegraph.com.au

Found this little number hiding in the cellar. As a 375ml thought it, a Semillon Chardonnay Sauv Blanc number would be best used as draino. Surprisingly still drinkable although well past its best. Even the colour is still pale and not the dark yellow I expected. Only give it a 5/10 though and would not share it with anybody else unless they want to know what a 9yo tastes like.

Now that is testing limits ;).

Cannot comment here about "nice wines" as I have just returned from conference dinner... "had to" drink Sav Blanc (as most would know is not one of my favourites) due to the only other option being a Grant Burge Moscato (evil surprise when I picked a glass of that up without knowing what it was!!)... or red (that I was scared of)... sigh.. I now know why in previous years I have baulked at the ticket price... Despite thinking I should have stayed in the Club lounge I had a wonderful night.. which is what these things are all about... fantastic company and met some great new people :)
Looking forward to getting home and back to work for some rest lol :)

Agreed, a good Sancerre is hard to beat but a good lime/lemon Chardonnay with young oak or even say a Cape Mentelle SSB such Wallcliffe as can also go well IMHO. Mellow ales also work depending on the type of oyster ( of which in NE America - BC 35 Puget Sound 26 - are seemingly unlimited OysterFinder | The Oyster Guide but we are quite restricted to fewer choices in Oz, unfortunately).

Sounds like a terrible selection of wine pitched at those who don't drink much wine!

And in Adelaide! We do have a lot of wine drinkers.. just think it was the organisers/ venue that let us down... maybe they were trying to encourage sober networking

Some recent wines I bothered to photograph.

Amazing to start with, but after about an hour in the decanter each glass turned within 10 minutes of pouring, therefore a 20-30 minute decanter was optimal.

And part 2

Dinner with a good friend (self explanatory).

Margaret River themed week. Those who attended the OzFest pre-do a few years ago will recognise two of these, and those who have flown QF J across the nation recently will recognise the third :)

I've got some Cullen Diana Madeline 2001 and 2002, however the last two I've opened have been corked! :(

Don't throw out the wine if that's the case. Get in touch with the winery and let them know. Wineries are usually pretty good about replacing wines spoilt by TCA.

Thanks Daver, I'll have to give them a call. I guess that's why they moved to stelvins around 2003.

The cork on that Mangan failed on extraction, but the contents were fine.

Indeed, especially if you have a long relationship with the winery.

I suspect under some consumer protection you would be entitled to a full refund for any TCA ruined wine. It was faulty before you even purchased it.
