Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Visited this winery on the Saturday ... Tiny and in the middle of nowhere in the Yarra Valley, but the wine was fantastic!

Upintheair, JohnM and I can't remember who else, they make a Sauvignon Blanc that doesn't taste like kiwi Sav blanc! Oaked and made in the French style ... Awesome!

They only make four wines - Sauv Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Cab Merlot. All were excellent, but the whites were the standout, especially at $26 each.

Oops, forgot the photo!

Which winery?

And what was your verdict?

I liked it and the missus really loved it!
It's soft, aromatic and fruity, not your typical full bodied SA red. Will probably get even better with more cellar time but I'll never get to test that as I got only one bottle.

After strong wins tonight against the number 2 team, then against a team 1 division up, put my feet up and saw this in my wine rack. Looking forward to the Grenache:

An EpiQure wine that I've had onboard flights. Really oak filled nose to start and very modest body and little astringency. Nice quaffer

Did you got it from QF J Dom? ;)

I do enjoy a straight Grenache. Don't seem to be that many around these days.

That's very interesting. Tannat is, probably unsurprisingly given its name, generally considered to produce a very tannic wine.

You may be interested to know that its 'second home' after SW France is Uruguay, where it is the most widely-grown red variety (c. 20% of the vineyard area.) Something to check out when you're there next ;).

Something a bit different tonight - Pertaringa 'singe vineyard' Tannat 2009.
Got it a few years ago from their McLaren Vale cellar door and I remember the owner was very proud to be the only one in the region who grows this grape.

Not listed on their website at present.

I got a magic takeaway earlier this week.

Leeuwin Estate Prelude Cabernet Merlot 2010.

It went down quite nicely in the air. On the ground it benefited from decanting, but was also quite yummy.

Degustation (tasting) menu at Altura in Seattle was truely fabulous. Accompanied by these

Very nice Vernaccia di San Gimignano- fruit on palate, clean with traditional spicy after taste.

Willamette valley Pinot- forest floor, excellent depth.

Had my elder son and his girlfriend around for dinner tonight. Roast pork with a narrowly-avoided brawl for JohnM's Perfect Crackling[SUP]TM, Pat.Pend. [/SUP]:).

I'm trying this 2010 Cab Sauv from the Fo - still trying to decide what I think of it...

I opened another of these tonight - left it to sit for 2 hours before starting. It's growing on me.

Having another one of these tonight - this time I have used an aerator and it has opened up nicely - totally different than the first. Noice

Another one from the Okanagan. Lovely fruits and flinty palate.

Their Chardonnay was so good that seemed worth trying this. Excellent.
