Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

A heads up. One of our favourite Central Otago wineries Mt Difficulty have just released their new vintages. We've just ordered two cases. For wine club members (sign up for free on online AFAIR) , they are offering the 2013 vintage of Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs and others including free shipping. Pity the A$ vs NZ dollar is not as good as it was a few years ago.

"The 2013 vintage has produced a quintet of amazing Mt Difficulty Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs!

Firstly, the Growers Series Packspur Pinot Noir from Lowburn - if you’re looking for drinkability, then Packspur never fails to deliver. Though it’s a shame to drink it young, it is delicious already. The 2013 is darker than in previous years, with dark cherry, plum and a hint of bramble and chocolate on the nose. The palate has gorgeous sweet cherry fruit and liquorice with good acid and tannin balance.

For the first time we have produced four Single Vineyard Pinot Noirs from our Bannockburn estates, with Mansons Farm joining the names you know - Pipeclay Terrace, Long Gully and Target Gully. They are dark and robust, with fantastic acid structure and predominant black fruit characteristics.

The Target Gully 2013 is all red – red current and red cherry on the nose, with red liquorice on the palate, with a hint of Omega plum tartness. It’s got great length, and is the most open of the Bannockburn wines at present.

It’s been three long years since the last Pipeclay Terrace, and it's bright in the glass. There are brown spice and forest floor characters on the nose, along with Black Doris plum. On the palate the oak is dry and the tannins are rich, offset by dark currants and blueberries.

The Long Gully 2013 has less fruit on the nose, though there’s some dark cherry with brown spice and chocolate, perhaps even tobacco. Cherry and spice on the palate too, but it's the least expressive and integrated at this time.

The inaugural Mansons Farm Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013 is, in one word, a monster! It's floral on the nose, with a big mouthfeel - chewy, spicy, dry tannins balanced by slightly sweet fruit. It is a fitting tribute to one of our oldest vineyards.

Last night. A couple of Great Southern Shiraz offerings.

The Plantagenet (excellent and drinking at its peak I would say) was the wine I chose for dinner. The Frankland Estate (good but lacking the much better body and textural mouthfeel of the Plantagenet) was in response to the inevitable PJM Friday night question: "What else have you got?".

Actually I told a fib, in the end we didn't have the Mt Difficulty 2010 Pipeclay terrace Pinot for the BBQ Roast Pork, we had this instead... Brilliant.

Drinking brilliantly now. Could keep for longer but now it's just fab, so much so that MrsTMA wanted a second glass! We bought it from the winery last August. Pity we only bought one of the 2006!
