Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

Nice Yarra Valley Pinot tonight. Drinking well, foresty floor aroma, nice fruit, reasonably long finish, soft spicy tannins.

BTW when we got back from the Willamette trip, friend in UK sent a nice birthday present along with this excellent card. :)

The wines I presented for blind tasting at this month's meeting.

And dinner wines brought by others. Coincidentally two Tatachilla Foundations there. The 99 was corked, my 05 thankfully excellent (under cork too).

Friday night. The GSM was a little underwhelming. Quite closed on the nose and not expressing the fruit at all. We drank it none the less:oops:.

The antique deer horn corkscrew I found at a Cooroy Festival stall has been added to the collection and works admirably:D.
The 04 Bin 389 was simply sublime, reinforcing why I bought and cellared this wine, albeit for $30 back then!

Except in the F lounge there is no such meal. ;)

LOL. Yes but I don't drink champers for breakfast in F lounge. Otherwise I don't retain consciousness for the Hennessy Paradis or 40yo Ports!

Made the snap decision to take MrsSed to Tassie on Friday, for a week. Hobart then east coast predominantly. Any tips on vineyards/wines would be appreciated. Without going OT too far any recommendations for Freycinet region accommodation or memorable restaurants/wine bars in general would be most welcomed.

If you get as N as LNS, Stillwater is an excellent restaurant.

This bottle really repaid the cellaring. Although I think my fridge is set at too low a temperature, looking at the decanter. Quite simply the best shiraz I've had this year and I've had a few! The Grenache is slated for opening tomorrow.

MeWah is something different and up there with Flower Drum in Melbourne, if not better. One of most extraordinary wine lists in Australia. Sommelier is ex-the Source. (Also a good restaurant.)

Most of them NE of Hobart we've been to have been worth the trip.

Calling RooFlyer, Steady and drron - to the Sedimental white courtesy phone please.

I'm not much help sorry - I have not spent any time around the vineyards down south or on the east coast

I think the best plan is to try as many as possible

Black Cow is also supposed to be very good (but I didn't get there unfortunately).. when I was there last week I had dinner at Cataract (yes.. I googled it.. that is really the name lol).. It was good :)

IMO, Stillwater is vastly better than BC - but they are (at least were) the same company. We were in LNS for a couple of nights about 3-4 years ago and did the two successively.

But they are totally different styles (Stillwater is 'modern' and does excellent degos; BC is, not surprisingly, more steak-orientated.)

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

We ate at Stillwater ~6 weeks ago and it is still good.
As for Freycinet wineries that is RooFlyer territory.Just have to wait until he is back from the mountainside.

Me Wah website has one in HBA and another in LNS. Both good? I have fond memories of a Flower Drum suckling pig and Tomboy Hill Pinot! Appreciate everyone's imput.

I thought the issue was starting at Hobart and heading NE. For MeWah, we've only been to the one in Hobart but given the enthusiasm of the owner, I would expect similar quality in LNS. Someone will have to test the percept to see if it fits the super symmetry or multiverse theory.:)

A rare NZ variety. Drinking very well. Soft tannins, nice spicy palate.

After a hard cold night on the sand, time to sit back and read a report from my accountant on the CGT implications of the split up of our business
