Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

I didn't think MEL had a decanter

I don't get there often and don't recall seeing it before but there was one sitting up on the right hand side of the bar on Sunday and on asking it wasn't going to be used that day

This 1999 Bin 389 was gift from a good mate who is a Penfolds collector. He said it's ok to drink it now so who am I to argue :p

Matured for 13 months in American oak casks, some used previously for the Grange.

Oh, in case anyone wonders, it's phenomenal!

Thanks for the report. I have 2 x 6 packs tucked away and was getting a little worried about them. Based on what you've written I might have a look at one in 2020.

PS. My records should that I paid $12 for them :)

Boomy, Dr Ralph - I am getting serious blog envy!!

Now, Dr Ralph. Please can we have a serious conversation offline about those $12 wines you have tucked away? I would be happy to pay good money for a few of the 12 you have. They would be going to a good home, and to a fellow in the profession who would really, really appreciate them ...!

At some stage in the future I might start to panic about the (I literally have no idea how many) thousands of bottles I have located on 3 continents. But that day is not today!

....and you are worried about getting a late delivery with levels of stock like this ! .

We shared a Bollinger at lunch at Kokos Melbourne today :)
The company, the food and the location (on this perfect Melbourne day).. all of my favourites <3
For visitors I recommend you book a table on the window and we always have the chefs sushi and sashimi platter..
Not cheap but the best you can get outside of Japan (in my humble opinion :) )

(Note to self)...If I need a lawyer do not consult Dr Ralph due to excessive wine cellar ;):)

Don't be put off by Dr Ralph's catalogue. You are just simply jealous like the rest of 'em. Now as far as his legal knowledge is concerned, I think I would back it 99.99% per cent of the time, BUT as far as consulting him, make sure you get in before lunch time.........just remember, anti oxidants are good for you, and with all his stock, he might just need to live to one hundred and ten . Salute !

More likely this is a great reason to hire me!

As I've stated before, I've never lost a case!

PS. Should someone calling themselves Major seek to hire my services I'll be sure to offer a very special price

You might not want to hire my colleague either who has over 4,000 bottles at the moment!

i remember the story my father in law told me about his best mate - when he died he had 8000+ bottles of wine in his cellar. his widow wasn't sure who she should give them away too!!!

I'm available :)

Not sure what's in the water (or wine glass tonight), but I have been having a hard job keeping up with the activity on the usual wine blogs tonight.

Whilst I was at it, I opened the Rosemount District Release Red 2012 (part of that 97 pack I got from MyCellars this week).

It's currently selling on the Fo (at a measly $0.05 less than MyCellars!). It's a lovely wine, as you taste all of the different grapes in the blend. It makes for a nicely balanced and nuanced wine, albeit it's a bit green at the top of the finish at the moment. I don't believe it's a 97 in my humble opinion, but it's an incredible wine for under $15.

Conclusion: If you are after a mid-week red drinker in 4/5 years time - then I don't think you will do better than this for the price (will power to hold off that long, unfortunately doesn't come with the purchase ...!)

White labelled one, or the one with a bit of orange/blue labelling? Plus a couple of golds and /or trophy.....I think I have that one somewhere so thanks again for the good review.

It is a very nice thing that another Fo purchase hits the mark.

I had a glass of 2011 Silver Oak Cab Sauv last night with dinner - a very nice wine and I am glad I tried it. image.jpg
