Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Re: Nice Wines I have DranK Recently - Red or White

'not thing'?

I think Wynns are great. Especially the black label. Around $20 to $25 for a quality, reliable wine that will cellar for 15 years or more.

I was thinking of opening a 1998 over the weekend.

Beefarmer already pulled me up on 'not thing'

My intention was not to suggest there is anything wrong with Wynn's wine or that they are not great - as mentioned above they have been around for a very long time with a huge reputation - just that I am starting to form the opinion that they are not my thing - not my flavour profile - not to my personal taste. Just my opinion. I am sure they are better with age and can cellar for 15 years or more.

When I can get my hands on a Wynn's with a little age on it I will find out if I like it - if I don't Wynn's will still be a great winery.

I am on leave for 3 weeks from tonight and have a BC20 WC Taittinger chilling at home for me ;) :D

Some people don't seem to understand this. What they like is correct and anyone who doesn't like the same wine is wrong ;)

Personally I quite like Wynns Cab Savs :)

Road tested a couple of recent VM purchases last night, two 2013 Cab Sauvs from McLaren Vale. Both impressive wines and recommended. The Fox Creek was a tad more fruit forward.View attachment 57578View attachment 57577

Don't think, do...I look forward to a review next week.
I looked under the house and saw a couple of 02 and 03's..

So the Fox Creek good value for around $8.50?
ralphy..the fox creek is bloody ridiculous for $8.50.
having said that, and it rates about an 8.5, I think the fox Gordon cabernet 2014 for $10.50 is better. I was trying to phone fox Gordon on Monday to ascertain a few details about this brothers and sisters cabernet. last Monday was a holiday for those south aussies, so this late arvo today, spoke to a great lass there who enlightened me a lot. This cab was an overseas product that was made first time 2014. We were all taking of aff about their rather unknown tempranillo a week or two ago. seems that this tempy was an overseas wine as well, not made for the 'fo as such. I don't know whether anyone really cares where this stuff is going, so long as it tastes good.

I originally was inquiring about their chardonnay..someone on winemarket reviewed it as being big and toasty and buttery. the lass at fg said it was a lightly oaked chardy, Adelaide hills acidity going on but not harsh, a bit of a keeper and a nice drop. oh well, two interesting views albeit very contrasty.amazing really the contrast but we know about individual taste worlds out there. Like that eden park stuff - you said that you had never had a bad one- mine was delivered yesterday, and at 6 for a hunge, damn good value, obviously yet to try the 2007 or 2008, I cant remember...I have never had a bad fox Gordon.

Now seems tonight is full of the long speel. What I did get from fg was talk about a grape I have heard but never tried, a nero d'avola or whatever. Their 2013 was a first ever and may be sold out but their 2014 is supposed to be a beauty. This lass has poured this wine to many many hundreds and it sounds an amazing wine. I can't remember whether the 13 or 14 picked up a gold at Adelaide, but people are intrigued by it....this one I must seek out.

lets me just add that for something different, the churchview zinfandel is an absolute cracker. Something different, I went for it. Damn good.

I start with Champers to prepare for more Champers in the QF MEL F Lounge - hopefully there is something special in the decanter  but either way I will post in the nice wines thread - then some quality time with the family.

I haven't and cannot this year, but would like to next year.

I opened a Frank Potts last night - I wasn't planning to and it didn't get decanted or a chance to breath. First glass was very closed - second started to open up and get interesting. I will try the rest of it tonight. 01444440249.jpg

Anybody else gone to a Pinot Palooza event?? PINOT PALOOZA

I'm heading to the Melbourne one today - will let you all know how it is!

Whoops, we were looking at going but looks like it slipped under the radar. How was it?

Just booked us in to Brown Brothers for their Vintage Release lunch next month; I'm sure the meal will be absolutely fantastic as will the wines.

1st post in this thread but given my propensity for wine consumption probably not the last.....
Had a delightful Scarborough Pinot Noir tonight - the Hunter is not renowned for it's Pinot production but this was a treat - made from a blend of vintages it was light and delicious, a perfect accompaniment to the pizzas we had :D
Will definitely revisit.

Whilst a far cry from my favourite on the palate - close to my favourite on the eye - I just love this label:

Never seen that label before CE.
I have been wondering how the wine assessors all use from 85 to 100 when a novice like myself would use between about zero and 75 for most offerings. It will not be easy to fix the bs that has developed in the Australian wine industry. Maybe we just need to leave it alone.
