Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Actually, the best place in the world we've found for oysters is Seattle and the NW coast. 98 , 98!, different types of oysters in Puget Sound and Vancouver island areas. Shuckers Bar at the Fairmont Seattle I'd fly to in a heartbeat to eat one of the 9 different types on special during oyster happy hour. All unshucked on ice until you order. Brilliant with a bottle of Columbia river Chardonnay!

Can provide photos on request!

You have good taste Uppy, it's my favourite Pinot too :)
I'm in BNE tomorrow, will see if Ms B can join us. We can make it Champagne and Pinot night :D

I really like their pinot
Yes absolutely. Their 'The Siren' is one of the best produced in CO and rates 92-97 although pricey, but if you join the wine club ( as we did when there some years ago) and get a shipment of 15 a year, they offer good discounts of their normal wines. Was excellent when exchange rate was very in our favour, less so now. However the cost of shipping for a 15 case is the same as for a 12 making it quite attractive.

Can't be bothered to go downstairs to wine frudge just for a photo of the bottles, so here's the link...

Sound like you two, or four, should get a room or at least hire out a medieval cellar for an afternoon.:)

Even the Rua is exceedingly drinkable for a mid $20s bottle

Yes all of their Pinots are v.nice. We discovered them originally because they are just down the road from Felton Road, who were closed, and we arrived early for lunch at Mt Duffulcty. A good find I thought. But it's hard to go wrong in Central Otago.

I opened an Escarpment Pinot I picked up at a bottle shop a month ago - it has similarities to the Kupe but I think it is more to my taste. It is quite light / bright in colour and of medium Body. It is earthy but a little less than the Kupe, with dark fruit flavours - cassis and black cherry - and lots of other flavours I am unable to describe. The finish is long and sublime. I wish they had more than one so I could go back to buy more - I think I will try to hunt some more out

Some of the nice wines we have enjoyed recently.
The MP Merlot is drinking nicely now and I'm sure it has another few years left. Big on fruit with a medium long finish.
I'm not really a Chardy drinker, most are too woody for me. I must admit though that I enjoyed this one.
The MP Shiraz is not a big wine, as you would expect from the Adelaide Hills. Easy drinking now, I'm leaving a few aside and look forward to returning in a few years.
The 2010 '76 was gorgeous. Glad I waited but could, or should, have waited longer. See what happens when you only get one!
In contrast to the '76, I should have consumed the Riesling sooner. You either like the stuff young and fresh or dark and aged.

Not wine...but still an alcoholic liquid. Recently relatives from Hobart visited for Christmas and brought this gem of a cider along with them - Below is an image of the Lost Pippin Tasmanian Cider recently delivered and consumed by myself, personally chauffeured to upto Queensland, not available outside of Tas and Melbourne.

FYI it is one of the most delicious ciders I have had, not overly sweet or overpowering, actually very much like a wine. Also more sophisticated than some other Tasmanian ciders, such as Spreyton Cider and miles ahead of Mercury.

A twilight BBQ and a lovely drop from 1998. It's a great shame Jameisons Run has become a weeknight quaffer because this reserve release was exceptional.

image.jpgimage.jpg

Opened very late it had no more than 10 minutes to breathe. It was silky smooth, yet retained that deep Coonawarra earthiness. IIRC I paid $20 in about 1990 at cellar door and I'm now regretting not buying the two dozen of so they had left in the bargain bin.

I've left a little left for tomorrow night so it will be interesting to see if 24 hours improves it further.
