At the risk of sounding obtruse that actually looks like a reasonable-ish price given the calibre (and cost) of some of those wines.

Yes, I agree with the value for money assessment. My "lottery" comment related to the actual price of the event, per head.
And, yes, of course, there will be tastings only. Probably just as well, given the number of wines on the list. Without double-checking, my memory is that there are around seventeen, all told. Not sure how clear the palate will be by the end of the list - but will be happy to run the experiment.
