Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Adelaide seems to be the home of hipster wine...sun was the out today...come on spring do your thing

Lucy Margaux red wine - 100% merlot - smashable, as was the chard

Montepulciano was still quite tannic even at 06

Hanging to see morrissey this week - the last of the international playboys

just a note for vino nobile- need to be opened at least an hour or two beforehand and decanted. Good Nobile will slowly soften over time in the glass.

The wife and I enjoyed a bottle of Torbreck - The Struie (2014) on our anniversary dinner on the weekend. I was worried at first that it would be too young to drink, but it was a wonderful wine. Dark berries and chocolate and a velvety smooth finish.

Kohen,
What vintage was the Thousand Candles and what were your thoughts?

Had a bottle of Warrabilla Reserve 2013 Cab Sav last night - picked it up from the vineyard on my latest trip to Rutherglen. Amazing full flavour - lots of berries and a richness that I can't begin to explain. I'll be grabbing a case when i'm down in the region next!

Ran out of steam after the other 3 (Vino Nobile was toughing going in full warmth of sun) & ginny hendricks...alas I didn't get to it

It's a 12, will imbibe on Thursday and share my thoughts

You really do know how to get the juices flowing Simsy, I have not tried anything from Warrabilla but am considering signing on to their mailing list as their wine sounds right up my alley especially the Durifs etc.

Mitolo Savitar 2004:
This wine still has immense power and drive, with luxuriant dark fruits, but it's all beautifully poised and balanced. Background flavours of cigarbox, leather, and dark chocolate. Real smooth tannins, balanced vanillin oak on the finish. It's all velvety smooth in the mouth. Drunk over two nights - just as good on night 2. Fantastic example of big SA Shiraz. After two dud bottles, I'm glad to get one that's good. CT93, borderline 94 for me.

L'ultimo pranzo in Italy for this trip. Lunch at Locanda Sant'Anna in the hills above Argegno, Lake Como. Fabulous food and stunning views. Do go here for lunch or dinner if you are in the area. Locanda Sant'Anna - Hotel Lago di Como

Thanks TheRealTMA. Looks like some nice local wine and food. Where's the money shot of Lake Como, so we can all live vicariously through you on this slightly chilly time commuting into work?!!

Their Parola's Durif & Zinfandel are sensational - I imagine their Cabernet & Shiraz siblings are similarly impressive. Available through their website & at Nicks. As I reported here elsewhere the extra 10 -12 bucks is a quantum leap in quality between reserve & Parola's. (But still a mighty fine starting point)

Had a most pleasant Saturday evening with a few mates......oh and some people were there as well.

You certainly don't muck about do you !
I believe this photo easily takes the prize for the best congregation of little soldiers waiting to be shot in a minor capacity by a few heads.
Nothing gets close when we are talking a big group to daver6's efforts with his exemplary examples of fine wine devoured by his congregation.

I am guessing as we approach the new year that some decent examples of wine enjoyment will be savoured. The 1860 picture is timely as the Fo had it today I believe, at a couple of hundred dollars. Can anyone give me their thoughts if they have had a HOG and perhaps a Mt Edelstone or Keyneton lately in comparison to each other. I mention this because I had a Mamre Brook shiraz 2003 and a mamre cabernet 2004 on grand final day and having the shiraz first found it a stunner. the cab second as youd expect and it was allright, but didn't go anywhere close to the shiraz. Cab scored from me about a 7.0, but the shiraz was middle eights.

Voyager Estate Cabernet Merlot 2007:
From the great 2007 vintage, high expectations were had, and this doesn't disappoint. Cassis, with undertones of mint and sweet spice on the nose. Palate has plenty of dark fruits and that oh-so-smooth taste expected of Voyager's flagship. Tannins are there but not intrusive, and the oak only plays a background role. This tastes a lot younger than it is, and will benefit from more time ageing IMHO. CT92

Looking forward to the couple of these that I have, but will try and resist longer following this note!
