Had lunch with Buzzard today. The lovely waitress talked us into this one.

Zenato Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2013.

Medium bodied, dry, with quite good structure. Surprisingly long on the palate. A pleasant food wine.

Those hotties look like they are wood-fired - nothing better to pair with a good red!

So I've had the weekend to try two Pinots' Noir purchased in the recent CM - "free for all" --- $25 each

The Ribbon Hills Otago - just perfect !!

The Heirloom Velvet Fog - (another Heirloom disappointment, but that's another story) - when did Burgundy EVER smell/taste of peppermint?? I don't mind mint in a new world Cabernet but Pinot ???!!! The mind boggles.

Anyway, it's going back under their total satisfaction guarantee and I'm asking for another dozen Ribbon Hill.

Love to hear/ be shot down by counter argument.

Drinking well for a young Pinot. Great forest floor nose, rich tannins.

even attracted the attention of the locals...

Last Yuesday of the Month's blind wine tasting was a little left field in more ways than one!

Darlington Riesling 2008 from Freycinet was clean and crisp, with hints of green apple and gentle citrus. Very elegant cool climate Riesling.
Lakes Folly Chardonnay 2011 too young IMHO.
Clovely Estate Left Field Semillon 2010 from Qld's South Burnett a surprisingly enjoyable tipple with a long life ahead of it.

Second bracket
Curly Flat Pinot Noir 2011. Very tawny in the glass. Lean and grassy. Doing themselves no favours releasing this wine.
Stephen John Shiraz 2009. Young minty Clare. Will improve.
Cape Naturaliste Torpedo Rocks Cabernet Sauvignon 2010. Bright luscious berry fruits. Firm, fine talcy tannins and a persistent finish. Will be great in 5-10 years time.

.

hmm. Surprised. Sounds like it was somewhat bottle tainted?

Have a couple of cases of these and was drinking excellently last one I tried a few months ago. From memory, Decanter rated this very highly.

Might have to go searching next Sunday (Pinot night).:)

How good is that picture from TheRealTMA above? Surely up for picture of the year on this thread!

So, Big Barossa Fans. Line up, line up, there's a great Red Blend with your name written all over it!

I give you the Two Hands Brave Faces Grenache Mataro Shiraz 2013

My notes concluded (with a hangover brewing after the first glass!!):

2013 Two Hands Brave Faces, Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley - CellarTracker

"If you like your GMS blend in that signature big, Barossa style, complete with 15.8% ABV. Yes, 15.8%! Then look no further. This fits in the mid range of (the always consistent) Two Hands. And is very drinkable and probably capable of ageing nicely. It's also good QPR too.

It's highly concentrated but smooth, fruity, mostly sweet (especially from the mid palate on), and nicely balanced (ignoring the alcohol, which is too much for me). With blood plum, raspberry, strawberry, liquorice, lots of black pepper and alcohol heat leading the charge. It's beauty & beast, but in a good way. It's not for me, but it gets a Wozza 92/100 (3.6/5.0) from me.

I agree with your assessment. Beautiful positioning and lighting on that bot of pinot sitting in the middle of two supurb glasses. What I liked was the shallow depth of field, and the 'almost can taste it and touch' the actual wine inside. Noooice.

Smashed this out tonight...I am new to the world of quality wine and definitely sold on quality over quantity and this is WOW for me

So sweet and smooth.. even better with another 5 - 10 years.... damm I loved it
