I'll have another one - or two... for you .
I finally summoned up the courage to open the only bottle I have of the infamous SUXX McLaren shiraz that I have had kicking around for ages (it's 2008), it was a gift from someone who knew I liked rather large reds and in particular shiraz-based wines. Why did it require courage? Well the Suxx weighs in at 17.6% alcohol and I've been a tad concerned that the top of my head was going to lift off! Suffice to say my cranium is still intact as are my taste buds but wow what a wine! Viscous and still dark and opulent in colour this wine has aged beautifully, 'smooth' is possibly an over-used adjective but that is what it is, slippery and velvety and fully fruit-driven. I feel like Brer Rabbit who has fallen into the blackberry patch but instead of emerging bloody and bruised I've simply had my mouth stained with its purple-black goodness, I could carry on all day with my wine-infused ramblings but suffice to say it was memorably good and I'm saddened that I've now polished off the only one I had kicking around...(BTW I discovered that Chris Ringland was the winemaker since drinking it which only lends more weight to the wine) As a footnote I've had to pinch someone else's photo online as the ones that I took can't be exported from my device - never mind) cheers dears.....View attachment 90086
He offered me some more Tolpuddle and put my name down on the "interested list" for the Vintec offer later in the year...

Menthol, liquorice and chocolate. Beautifully integrated oak. Long and seamless. Yum!
Last Tuesday of the month's blind wine tasting in Brisbane. Six reds chilled to a drinkable temperature. Not merlot, but sideways!
