Have you tried the mollydooker boxer shiraz? or the other variants? They too come with similar attributes and flavour characteristics.

Hi BF nice to hear from you! Firstly I couldn't see an image in your post (got the pesky blue box and question mark symbol) so was wondering whether it might have been related to getting my hands on some more of this great gear? Although the "sold out" at the end seemed to say it all, it was certainly one of GWD's better moments! Haven't tried the Mollydooker but have heard of it, will certainly look it (and it's variants) up....
 
Last Tuesday of the month's blind wine tasting in Brisbane. Six reds chilled to a drinkable temperature. Not merlot, but sideways!

Not sure whether you liked it or not Sedimental but (reading between the lines) perhaps it found favour? I sent my dozen back, didn't really 'get' the flavour profile especially the saline finish!

Had this delightful quaffer tonight whilst listening to / reminiscing on Nick Cave's powerful turn at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre...a "classic vintage" in his prime...This sangiovese, current grape of choice in Kohen lair, is delicious at $14...medium bodied velvet with cherry bombs...not one to keep, just to smash now...did i say $14 !!! Won best wine recently in SA hottest 100

I bought three of the Mollydooker Boxers last year at about mid twenties and will give them another few years. never tried any of their product before but it was mentioned here last year. Similarly, at 25clams, I picked up some of their shiraz/cab blend more recently which the helpful gentleman at nicks in east Doncaster says has a best before 2020 on it. Should be a sinch.

Nice wines I have had - Steady would love this and the pinot fans who told me last year. paringa estate pe 2015....simply devine. Not in a glenn milstead you think youre a man type of divine, but a bit of cherry, a bit of pepper, a bit of cinnamon, spice, length and so Moorish. My friend and I who enjoyed it gave it at least a 9/10.

General Comment
I wrote the song because Anita and i would argue at a constant pace and I would always tell her to unleash the dogs and burn the bridges as a way of saying you can say what you feel but forget the past and let's move forward. in an argument one always has to stand down until the other quits. this cleans off the slate. the first verse contemplates arguing all night long until one gives in and they embrace each other and start over. this was not one of my "dark" songs. I write what I feel and I was not feeling "dark". if you want "dark" then immerse yourself into murder ballads.

Uplifting indeed, Stagger Lee from Murder Ballads certainly is in the Mollydooker territory. Mollydooker polarises with good reason...palate now struggles with it, but early on was a fave...check out the 15 Blue Eyed Boy in the $40s for some declassified fruit from the Carnival of Love at much higher RRP...but me no, fridge has been emptied of Dooks, find Noons more refined for the alcohol...

Please remember I was tasting this blind and it was the first wine of the evening. Naturally I'd had a flemmy to tune the taste buds prior:rolleyes:! And the wines are generally, but not necessarily, Australian. Our options for varietal were Cab Sauv/Temp/Sangio. It was big in alc, fruity, dry and tannic. Young. I think the above description is pretty accurate. I've tasted quite a few Temps over the years but I don't go seeking them out. I thought it was a sound wine. When you say "saline" do you mean salty like sea air or for want of a better descriptor fishy, like some of the old Seaview Estate wines?
 
2009 Vasse Felix Viognier
A Rhone style limited release from Vasse. Apricots, spicy perfume and musk on the nose with the acidity balancing the oily mouthfeel remarkably well. A delight on its own but robust enough to accompany the King Island Blue.

Recent purchase from epiQure, distinctive lime aromas, balanced acidity and touch of sweetness, was good match to spicy home made Som Tum salad.

Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 (One Penny Red) CT91:
Nose of intense cassis. The palate is medium bodied, with lovely dark fruits, finishing with a nice savoury spice. The tannins are smooth and well integrated, however the finish is a little short, leaving you wanting more. Not as nice as the '04, though still a great Bordeaux blend.

Elderton Command Shiraz 2002 CT94:
In great condition right now: dark red in the glass. Nose is big, with blackberries, plums, leather, dusty earth and savoury spice. The palate is velvety smooth and mouth coating, with fine tannins and a long, long finish. This is excellent. Been keeping these '02s since release (including a move overseas and back). Glad are they are rewarding the cellaring.

Petaluma Coonawarra 1993 CT90:
One of Coonawarra's royalty, the 1993 is a 65/35 Cabernet/Merlot blend, hailing from a cooler and slightly wetter vintage. The nose is subdued: blackberry, blackcurrant and mint. The palate has more flavour, with dark fruits, leather, dusty earth, more mint. The tannins are super fine. This is more a medium bodied Bordeaux style than full bodied Aussie cab. The wine itself, whilst still carrying on is starting to fade, though still quite enjoyable.

Cantine San Marzano 62 Anniversario Primitivo di Manduria Riserva 2013 CT93:

Ridiculous, sublime. Sublimely ridiculous? Or ridiculously sublime? Cherries: red and dark, blueberries, raspberries, smokey notes and vanillin oak. This wine is just waaaaay over the top - a ton of fruit (did I mention thick cherries?) with other secondary flavours holding their own, and some subtle sweet spice in the background. I don't know if this is good primitivo but it's good to drink - just don't take it too seriously! Comes in a suitably ridiculously heavy bottle.

Both Nick and the Sangiovese sound great! My little brush with the Seeds was enjoying sushi with Mick Harvey pre-departure here in Tas very nice chap and quite untouched by fame. Will have to look into the Sanger and see if I can procure some...

Hope I didn't sound like I was raining doubt upon your judgements, the Bashams was equally loved and derided by those on the forum who bought it from the 'FO, I was desperate to love this wine but felt it was somehow coarse or flabby with ultimately a fairly short finish and the "saline" aspect was indeed of the salty variety (perhaps the vineyards proximity to the briny deep?) It's such a personal matter and bound to create either dissension or subjectivity at times....

Funny thing Wozza until I read the blog fully I thought the bloke in the pic was Charles Bukowski rather than a pre-eminent winemaker! (nice web design btw)
 

Lots of things you can spend $50/bot on :) but this is big & brash with some sophistication. There's 400+ reviews on Vivino/CT so you can probably get a good sense of what it'll taste like.

Any import is going to attract about 45% markup in duty/WET/GST, so a $50/bot that tastes good is usually a rarity. If you like the style, I think it's worth it.
