Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I thought it would be, but rather than copy the whole text into a post, I was really putting it up as an alert for anyone who wanted to rummage around. Basically it says that Australia has suffered in the Merlot stakes by a poor single-clone choice years ago dominating production here, but that is now changing.

I can post the whole text if required.
Thanks, no need.

So sounds like a few years before we start generating exceptional Merlots?

My weekend wine bottles on their way to the recycling bin. I commented on the Serrat a few days ago, the Blue Poles was a delight to drink

How was the Grenche Noir? I saw you posted on the SV. I've got a bottle of the GN from that vintage just biding its time...

Tonight at a small family-run parilla in La Fortuna, Costa Rica.

A very good wine from the Maipo Valley in Chile that punched well above its very moderate price-point.

Smooth, textural, delicious and long. What more could one ask for?

Working a treat with a rare sirloin and wow-factor chimmichurri.

Not a spectacular wine, but interesting in being a straight Cab Franc from the Valle de Uco (about 100 km S of Mendoza and around 1500m. - produces some sensational Pinot.)

I’ve had vastly better, particularly from the NE USA (W Virginia, Long Island, where some superb examples are produced.)

But this was the most ‘unusual’ wine in the limited selection at the lodge where I’m staying outside Santa Elena in the Monteverde cloud forest in Costa Rica, so I had to give it a try. Too far out of town to walk in for something better.

Nice to see you "putting pen to paper" again Wozza! :)

Thanks mate. I've just booked flights to Tassie in the middle of Feb next year. I'm hoping we can organise a dinner or lunch and maybe some cellar door visits. I've spoken with Steady, and I'll post something up soon. It would be lovely to meet you. Hopefully the stars align.

Cheers, Wozza

Tonight in Santa Elena, Costa Rica, at a very hip place in a touristy town. Surprisingly good food, plus a great live band that had us all up and dancing. A great Friday night :).

I must say I’ve never previously tried a Merlot from Mendoza but this was very good. Luyan de Cujo is essentially ‘Mendoza Central’. You can ride a bike there from downtown.
