Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I'm sure the wine was fabulous, but according to Langton's Vintage Ratings, 2003 was only rated a 7 for MR Cabernet. 2004 was a 10, 05 (8), 06 (6), 07, 08, 09, 10, 13 (all 10), while 11, 12 and 13 were each rated 9.

I have just one '04 left :(. Frankly, Leston is always pretty darn good (except for the terrible 2006 season which was very cool and bad for all reds in MR. A lot of red grapes were not even picked that year.)

My conundrum tonight:

Decisions, decisions

I think I'll go with the Airlie Bank, haven't tried it before

Interesting - Airlie Bank label looks different to what I recall! Didn't realise Reds were made under that label back in 2010!

Despite having visited the winery (Punt Road) many times (including immediately after the bushfires a couple of years ago, which came perilouslyclose to destroying the winery - flames literally licked the cellar door) haven't tried many of the Airlie Bank wines. How was it?

Punt Road make one of my favourite stickies! Botrytis Semillon- yum!

Actually the first glass was really nice - full. Smooth yet acidic end on the tongue.

About to drink the second glass, I enjoyed the first so much

Not sure if this is the correct forum but maybe someone can help...
Opened a 10 yr old Diamond Valley Pinot Noir tonight and I think it's gone :(
Is there anyway to bring it back??
Or should I blend it with a fruity cleanskin rather than sending it down the sink (which seems too depressing for the cost of the bottle)?

No resurrection available, I'm afraid. Was it white or blue label? If blue, I would not have attempted to keep it beyond a few years. But, as always, how was it stored? Even the higher-end white label would easily cark it if the storage conditions are not good.

I'm with JohnM. Give it a burial UpInTheAir:) and onto the next bottle. I've had 2 St Henris turn on me over the years, so understand your reluctance to let go.

I only got one this week (Penfold deal) but I think it's a good reason to get a wine fridge.
I share your pain QF WP, lost a St Henri myself :-|

It was a white label :(
I was afraid that would be the case...
Thank you for confirming JohnM

So consoled myself with a Star Lane Merlot

It was delicious :)

PartnerJohnM's daughter gets married tomorrow, so she's gone back to her mother's tonight for some final bonding. Usually on a Friday night I'd be cooking for PJM and trying to make sure I get my fair share of the wine I drag out.

So, home alone tonight, I thought I'd do a little bonding of my own and I dragged this little number out of one of the cabinets for that purpose:

Opened and decanted it about an hour ago. Just having my first sips while the dinner prep enters its final stages. It's been slumbering under good conditions in the cabinet for many a year and it's awesome.

Aaaah, a pleasant evening coming up :D.

One of my favorites as well JohnM:

From the look of the 1992's neck, I need to drink it soon - so thank you for making me check my bottles

Your place or mine ?? :D ;)

Nice EV SA Shiraz - good fruit, spice and white pepper. Like a nice NZ Hawkes bay Shiraz. Could have a few more years sleeping..

Maaate, I hit BNE from PER at 1915 Sunday night (a little consultancy in Qld has recently dropped into my (semi) retired lap). Now how far from the airport did you say you were ;):D? I've been put up near BNE that night and I'm up to BDB the next morning. Man, anything is possible ;).

Have to say the wine came into its own once it was paired with food (JohnM's specialty slow-cooked ox-tail stew (re-warmed from a couple of days ago, so bursting with more flavour) with creamy mash, grilled asparagus and roasted herbed and (highly) garliced half Roma tomatoes - not bad, even if I do say so myself ).

Interesting to note that the '92 is only 12.5% alc. Different era, it would seem. (Paging Daver6 for expert comment.) The 'Gold Book' rates 1992 a 5 while it has 1999 & 2000 at 7 (its top score). I think the '92 needs to be drunk NOW - but the '99 will need to be in close reserve, so Sunday night looks good ;).

YUM!!! Hey... I'm in Perth next week... ;)

Nothing like giving me a bit of notice :o. But if you come to my place (west of airport) and drink; you might make it late back to your lodging ;) [presume you're at Novotel) BBG = Bundaberg. What day/time is your return through BNE?

Damn, you could cook and I'll supply the wine. Naah, we'd eat too late

Didn't know the ratings but interesting. Had my other bottle of 92 at my 40th birthday and recall it was really good (but not as good as the Grange 76)
