Oh well, I tried, now back to the hunting ground.

My Standish finally arrived plus other things, so let’s start something with a little less oak.

4 acres,15% whole bunch , light and bright red colour, beautiful red fruit on the nose ,light mix berries/raspberry With some nice acidity running along side of my tongue,not too sour.this is one top release,too bad the 2020 vintage has smoke tainted which is unlikely to be produce.

Standish shiraz, 100% single vineyard, this is very subtle as a barossa shiraz, purplish colour ,lovely nose , the tannins here really overtakes the fruit as the hero of the wine, if I tasted these blind with barolo or barbaresco I don’t think I can tell the difference until the tannins soften in a day or 2, mix black fruits ,herbs and a smooth long finish.

Sami odi Hoffmann 18’, for the last few years the little wine over shines this single vineyard(i think?) because of its price, same block as Hoffmann and of course the NV factor,but this stand up against its own.sweet red fruit on the nose, very easy drinking style ,plums, creamy oak,big tannins ,it just taste like little wine! to tell the difference between the little wine 9 and this at a blind tasting is the aged characters like stronger herb,earthy and starts to have the leathery character.

I tasted the lamella before the Sami odi.
This lamella is a BAD WINE! DO NOT BUY IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. Let me know if you found more stock online, I will buy them all so you don’t have to drink it!! The tannins is massive ,almost hided all the fruit underneath it,and why does it smell like flowers?! Is a fake red!

anyway, colour looks very similar to the Standish shiraz, hint of dark fruit, dark chocolate ,mix berries ,more non-fruit complex element is in play here,I guess I can safely say goodbye to mount edelstone.

I did happen to crack a 2018 Sami Odi Hoffmann the other day, in the name of science of course... drank it over a few days, and it was absolutely stunning by day 3 - the rest were promptly stashed deep into the cellar for at least another 5-8 years by my thinking. I don't have the heart to open a 2018 Standish yet though...

I did happen to crack a 2018 Sami Odi Hoffmann the other day, in the name of science of course... drank it over a few days, and it was absolutely stunning by day 3 - the rest were promptly stashed deep into the cellar for at least another 5-8 years by my thinking. I don't have the heart to open a 2018 Standish yet though...

i can't make that decision for you but if i have more than 3 bottles i would open one and see how they are when young,we didn't decant any of these because we like to see how it is straight from the bottle. Yesterday we spend over 8 hours to finish off these 4 bottles, we can see the changes from one glass to another.

i can't make that decision for you but if i have more than 3 bottles i would open one and see how they are when young,we didn't decant any of these because we like to see how it is straight from the bottle. Yesterday we spend over 8 hours to finish off these 4 bottles, we can see the changes from one glass to another.

Called them today and was told pre-orders were fulfilled first and my delivery is expected to be dispatched this Friday.

In case anyone hoped they get more Lamella, no chance. Apparently MWG were allocated only 27 bottles.

The Epitaph was phenomenal, comes from Reillys Wines in the Clare Valley, SA. Better than Rockford Basket Press imho.

This group likes it straight out of the bottle freshness ,if I’m drinking by myself I would of done the same as you , but I do like it this way too, since it is in the glass the wine opens up quicker too.

Nice drinking. Lots of Rotenone (Rotenone - Wikipedia) white pepper on opening. Nice spice and good body. Slowly mellowing over a few hours. Still very young.

Experimenting a little tonight. Making crayfish medallions in a limoncello source. Can at least confirm that the wine is excellent. Super intense nose but a very refined palate. Beautifully balanced. Not sure what these sell for now, but I paid $38 on release from the winery. Wish I bought more. One bottle to go.

@JohnM would have invited you but figured you'd be sick of crays after your trip. That and I didn't want to only have a 1/3 of a bottle

I don't think its going to get any better with more time. My thinking is it's at its peak (subjective because people like wines at different stages of their life) but certainly won't fall over in the next few years. I've got one more bottle and I'll aim to drink it before 2021 is out. If I had more I might consider saving the another bottle into 2022, but on the other hand, why wait when it's this good now.

Can also confirm that the cray medallions turned out to be amazing

Shared two botts of the highly Wozza lauded 2013 Ironscraper shiraz last night and it is a beautiful wine that went down nicely with lamb. Full flavoured, great deep berry with cherry hints, lingering finish and no unpleasantness. A beauty at the $25 mark from langtons all those years ago. Two left, good for another 5years i think.

at least @penegal made a contribution, CE brought nothing, the rest were from @boomy, who woke up at 4am and travelled 1400km, and me, mostly courtesy of 1st Choice, for them

Exactly - fantastic idea to come empty handed - gorge on tucker all night - quaff quality wines like there is no tomorrow - chuck a few shekels into middle of table - walk out with a suitcase full of plonk without shelling out a cent!!! My kinda night
