Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

I hate getting a tart taste in red wine and believe they tossed in green grapes to the mix.
Last one was Cyril Henschke so i won’t buy another one for a long time.

I came across this bad boy the other day, it is a WA Malbec. Not quite in the same league as some of the other wines on this thread, it is quite soft and easy to drink. I picked it up on impulse as First Choice Liquor (SA) was selling it out at $5.00 a bottle and I don't mind the odd Malbec. If it was cough it would have become a BBQ wine but after tasting and doing a bit of google searching the average retail value seems to be $20-$25 a bottle so seems like good value for money, better still I quite like it and it will not become a BBQ wine.

Visited Brown Bros in Milawa on Sunday and left with 2 of these pictured below + couple of 2016 Patricia Shiraz

Now I would not go as far as to say the packaging quality exceeded wine quality - but this erotic blend tasted better in tasting room than it did at dinner tonight - $90 less 20% discount for cellar door purchase - only money isn’t it? Anybody you who has been able to take it with them?

@Cruiser Elite I have been known to been to partake in the odd Brown Brothers wine. Although I am not a big rosé fan the reason I found the WA Malbec above was MrsM asked me to to go to the First Choice Liquor and collect some of this rosé and another rosés she had found in the $5 clearance section. The one pictured retails for around $20 so at 75% discount it was a good saving and actually is not to bad. There were quite a few other wines (red and white) in the $5 section that were in the 65%-80% off RRP, my old 4x4 ute came in handy.

As you mention it's only money and everyone loves a bargain, I missed the QF wine champagne (Pommery) from a year or so back.

Didn’t think Patricia Shiraz will be to your taste, the 2016 vintage (as well as Patricia CS) is often found at BWS under clearance for half price.

Maybe so but as I have tried on a number of occasions to explain to you and your band of scarey merry men sometimes paying full price at a winery as a ‘souvenir of your visit’ ain’t the worst thing you can do - not all of us spend every waking hour trying to work out how to cut a sixpence in half cobber 👍

Speaking of your band of scarey merry men I have a surprise in store for your mob at next Olive Tree dinner if you are ever allowed back into MEL 👍

Sorry, I meant if you like it and want to buy more after you’re back home. I’m all for supporting wineries and do it quite often but sometimes you want to top up on that nice drop you got as a souvenir and mind as well get it half price if possible :)

Stellar vintage from Mayer. The Close Planted PN is complex yet elegant as expected from this producer but the star for me was the Neb. First time to try Mayer Nebbiolo and I loved it! Quite light and perfumed with notes of strawberry, drinking well now but I have a feeling it will shine more in few years :)

Agree that Neb is a stunner.

I’m not expecting to see it as an Under Wraps any time soon…doesn’t seem to rate well on Vivino though?

I'm not a Vivno user or fan. Cellartracker rates it very highly. But what's most important to me...I really like it :)

I originally purchased a few to try and fell in love with the wines. Then topped up a bit via QF wine. They seem to the Cab and Syrah discounted at the moment, but you need to purchase by the dozen. Buying a dozen of one wine isn't something I'm up for though.

$45 ain't cheap tho, esp in 12 unless you can split.

Cheap is a relative term. For this specific wine, $45 is the cheapest I've ever seen it. Normally around the $60 mark and at $54 it's excellent value in my book. YMMV.

I also don’t usually buy dozens but give me their 17’ Neb or CP PN for $45 and I’ll do an exception :D
