Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Purchased from the cellar door ages ago. An absolute bargain for $25! Weather is still far from PERfect and needed something to match steak. This will do the trick. As someone in my tasting group once said to describe a big wine this is "bigger than god's underpants".

Correct. Old vines, no irrigation.

Popped a VM classic last night, just starting to show a bit of age and improved/relaxed over the evening.

We all know Kay Brothers make great (Block 6) Shiraz but their Reserve Grenache is also impressive. The 2016 vintage is only the second release but already won awards and for a good reason, it’s fantastic!

So I have a few (more expensive) Penfolds in my cellar but I can’t remember the last time I actually drank one. With the recent price drop for the Bin 28 I thought I’d give it a try. Immediate thoughts - well structured/well made wine, still bright fruits and quite youthful for a 2013. $30 is more like it than $50 though…. I am building up a vertical tasting so it will be interesting when I ever get the chance to do it.

Sorry to hear that but regard it as a learning experience! It’s been said many times so I won’t belabour it but there are man6 better value wines out there, maybe explore some of them. Or not, it’s your money to waste after all.

only a few, not a lot ;-) That’s why I was curious to try this. $30 is more than I would usually spend on a weeknight quaffer. Whilst Bin 28 stands it’s ground well against the other $50 RRP wines I have, I only paid $10-20 for most of those.

I’ve become big fan of this small producer.
Grapes are sourced from different locations in VIC to make exquisite Chardonnay and Pinot Noirs. The Cab Franc is also very nice although not at the same level of excellence as the others.
Good value for money around $35 each (2019 vintage), if you can find any.

MD was lovely, got it on sale at FC around $33. Due to low scores (particularly RP90) I got only two bottles. Drinks well now and will improve further IMO.

Been a while since I had such a high alcohol Shiraz (16.5%) but when I saw CR on clearance at BWS I couldn’t resist.

Decanted for two hours and couldn’t believe how smooth it was. Good to see a producer that still release his wines after few years in the bottle when it’s ready to drink.
Even my +1 who is mostly Pinot Noir and Grenache drinker these days and generally not a fan of high alcohol Shiraz loved this wine.

If you can still find it on clearance at BWS it’s an absolute bargain at $25, highly recommended!

I literally see this at nearly every BWS store and still available.

It seems no one touchs it, and I didn't know why. Thank you for the feedback! It's $29 here before discounts tho.

4.2 on Vivino / 1k+ reviews is impressive.
