I acquired a bottle in a Langtons mystery box. Are they generally good?I'm drinking a 17 tonight that I picked up for $15. Getting my money's worth I reckon. View attachment 272843
I'm not sure that I'd pay $35 or so but can't go wrong at $15 IMHO.I acquired a bottle in a Langtons mystery box. Are they generally good?
I always struggle to find the 6 for $99 offers on Dan’s app. Could you kindly share a link? Thanks!I'm not sure that I'd pay $35 or so but can't go wrong at $15 IMHO.

It is in the unwrapped section, member special by the botlle but no good if you live in Victoria $24.90 each cannot find the $99 ,offerThe 2018 was awarded 96pts by Huon Hooke so 6 for $99 would be an amazing bargain
My experience with Penfolds wines of this era is that a lot of the corks are dodgy and break or crumble when you try to open the wine. I wonder whether they bought a cheap batch?I opened a1996 Penfolds Yattarna and it was a deep yellow. The cork broke in half but it came out ok.
Best white wine I have drunk and went well with the crayfish, crabs and crumbed red emperor for lunch.
Crumbly corks are a sign of dry old corks. Wine most likely either not stored in humid conditions and/or on it's side.My experience with Penfolds wines of this era is that a lot of the corks are dodgy and break or crumble when you try to open the wine. I wonder whether they bought a cheap batch?
I'm sitting on (my last) one too. Always in back of my mind that its had its time. Great to see it still in there going strong!!!I opened a1996 Penfolds Yattarna and it was a deep yellow. The cork broke in half but it came out ok.

Agreed. But IME Penfolds corks from that time are prone to break even when properly cellared.Crumbly corks are a sign of dry old corks. Wine most likely either not stored in humid conditions and/or on it's side.
Kay Brothers had the same problem.Agreed. But IME Penfolds corks from that time are prone to break even when properly cellared.
