Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Now this is a keeper. Still on my Mendoza Malbec thing, but went conservative with a Uco valley number, Andeluna 1300. ( for 1300m above sea level). Lost the receipt, but I think about C$28.

Just gorgeous. Times like these I wish I had Daver6's vocabulary, but the colour was a stunning ruby red. It was soft but firm on the palate; really mouth filling ( is that contradictory?). Sort of like a milkshake that you just like to keep drawing on. I dealt with a couple of glasses a bit too quickly, with baked lamb chops.

Gunna take a bottle home.

Send me a sample and you can have my vocabulary :)

More seriously, just take a wine appreciation course. They are a heap of fun and a great learning experience.

Never could get the hang of winespeak. What in heck does a sweaty saddle smell like?Never could get all the different fruits etc that many say they can detect in a wine.So my classification is much simpler-
Fit for the sink.
OK to add to a curry.
OK.

B*good.
B*good+
B* fantasic.

Had to laugh at this, if you were a country boy you'd know the answer to this. Sweat I'm sure you know, leather adds a certain piquancy, it is not a wine descriptor that entices me much (Hunter shiraz I presume).

I was told though to be a really good Hunter shiraz the saddle had to be ridden by a virgin.Didn't ask whether the virgin should be male or female!:p:lol:

Iron Oxides (responsible for the old sweaty saddle taints) have no gender.

Based on past comments made by our illustrious PM, if you mention (an) iron, surely it's gotta be female...This got me wondering, how does one iron the hide of an ox?

This is the current Dan Murphy Secret Pinot

On a combination of the JohnM and drron scales it's B*Good + lovely, drink more.

Needs a decant, if you are a fan of decent Central Otago Pinot then I think you'll love it. Fantastic buying at the price.

How is/was it?
Didn't enjoy the first mouthful - its youthful exuberance had me almost gasping for breath. Was better with food - slow cooker meal (beef stew) topped with mac & cheese. It settled down as I got further into the glass and by the end I could almost taste the (dark) fruits. Will have another glass tonight and see if it is any better - but I fear the oxidisation may spoil it.

I'm waiting with bated breath for the next instalment in this discussion (seriously). It puts a whole new dimension to chemistry.

C'mon guys!

This discussion is getting a little too 'inorganic' for a discussion on the organic chemistry of wine productions but just one...
