Nice wines I have drunk recently - Red or White

Two days of drinking Picardy wines and I’m impressed!
I don’t know much about Pemberton but my +1 used to work there 15 years ago and has fond memories.

The Chardonnay is classic WA. I’m no expert by any means but there is something about WA Chardonnays that makes them distinctively different from the rest and I love their style.

Shouldn’t be surprised by the quality, these are the people who established Moss Wood so they obviously know a thing or two about winemaking. Speaking of which, the last PN I had from WA was MW and I remember thinking it was nice but overpriced at $60. Picardy PN retails at $40 (before other discounts) and I think it’s fantastic value. This is a seriously good PN and to think it’s just their entry level, amazing!

Firstly I made a slight correction to your post for you :)

The MW is an interesting beast. I don't get it either. It's way too warm to grow Pinot in MR IMHO. Pemberton/Manjumup is much cooler and more suited to that grape.

I believe this Aussie red won best Shiraz in the world at a competition in 2019.

*Spoiler Alert*
This is not the best Shiraz in the world.

Having said that it’s a very good wine and well worth it’s $120 RRP. Gladly I paid less than half for 6-pack back then it was offered on MWG :)

Finally got to crack a bottle to accompany 500gr ribeye for dinner. Took about two hours for the wine to open up and become magnificent!

This weekend its the: Southern Tasmania Wine Weekend and I took time off from my no-booze diet  to support the industry. Just 4 visited today, in the Coal River Valley, just outside of Hobart.

Basically it was wall-to-wall Riesling, with a pinot noir or two.

Standout for me was Pressing Matters, who produce 4 Rieslings, R0, R9, R69 and R139 (sticky), the R of course being grams residual sugar. My favourite of the day was the R9, but pic of R0, but they all look the same except for the R number.

The weekend is a great opportunity to visit wineries that don’t normally operate a cellar door.

And you can tell that they don’t have a cellar door 😀. Love it - it’s like much of the Tas industry CDs operated until 10 years ago.

Didn't manage to get all the wines in one photo last night. Firstly the 50 year Jura. Damn it slightly corked. That was rather annoying.

The wines in the image below were actually opened almost two weeks ago and those small bottles filled with them. We had them last night and fresh as still.

Are you posting TN here or on auswine? I am keen to hear how the Rockford was, and where it sat with its peers.
I tried the ‘15 at the CD and loved it, I also have some ‘16 but haven’t tried it yet

The guy who usually writes up our group's notes will still do it and post it to auswine in due course.

My memory is a little hazy but it was pretty elegant and an very good wine IMHO.
