Just quick example 1st of August next year to FRA 128000 plus 480 cash. You can always tick the box for search around this date which can help a lot

Hi, had a look and QFF want 766,000 points. Is that right ?? seems huge to me.

It was only like 3 days ago I thought the same - keep looking and subscribe to either expertflyer or KVS and enjoy the world. In fact if you continue searching ASA you will eventually find what you are looking for. You just have to be flexible.

The world is yours.

Thanks Guys, I'll keep those fingers tapping !!!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Using the premise from this statement:

Hmm - QANTAS says 1 million ASAs have been taken in the 3 years they've been available. That's about ~20,000/month (and I suspect running at a higher level now, as they've become more well known as an option).

I'd love to know:

1. How many YASA's, JASA's and FASA's
1. How many FF points have been cashed in, as this decreases the liability on the QF Balance Sheet
2. For the Points + Pay, what has been the average co-pay

Doubt I'll ever find out...

Thanks to what I learned from the gurus in this thread I made it to WP today for the first time with two weeks to spare. I was helped by the double SC period and a couple of JASAs - would have got there faster if I'd managed the first JASA during the double SC period.

Another 900 SCs in two weeks for all those other bonuses... yeah right! 50 000 points anyone?

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Quick newbie question - are the points cost for ASA's tied to the underlying real cost? So if the actual cost to purchase is low, e.g. when QF has specials, does that mean the ASA cost reduces as well (if you book into same fare bucket).

Also, do ASA's earn miles?

Thanks!

No I don't believe that they are tied to the real cost, more the underlying availability of certain fare buckets, and yes ASA's do earn status credits and miles

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

The whole idea of "yield management" is to get enough passengers onto each flight to more than cover the cost of that flight. The hardest thing to do is to get each plane to be full as the gate closes without bumping off anyone to a later flight. The points for a JASA can vary because of supply and demand and the flight time.
A JASA from Sydney to Perth can range from about 45,000 to about 220,000 points on the same day so you have to use points like you use your money......carefully I meant!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Have just booked a JASA fare HNL/xSYD/BNE on QF one way which was the base rate of 60,000 points each so total cost was 120,000 points plus a cash payment of AUD1,510.78 total for two not pp.

Using the slider up and down I could have used all 182K points I had but that only brought the cash payment down to approx AUD900.00ish so for the sake of AUD600.00 I chose to hang on to the points because that's already enough for another JASA HNL/SYD/BNE which IMHO is worth a heap more than 600 bucks! However, to each their own. :p

Note that when you check the box "flexible with dates" when you do the initial search the tabs showing the points required for each day of the week will always be the highest amount ie the points you require - ie if you were utilising the maximum points required and nil cash payment.

The search I viewed which displayed flights over a period of one week were all around the 800,00 points mark however the day I wanted showed 139,000 points. When you then select that date it's not until you get to the next screen that you view the "slider" and in my case cranked it down to the left to see the minimum points being 60,000.

Check the GST component; you may save on points "value"!

A few weeks ago I made a Domestic JASA booking for 24000 points and $91. I used a buiness Amex Charge card to pay.

This hs come through on the statement such:
Code:
QANTAS AIRWAYS
ABN 16009661901 Reference: 0[COLOR=#d3d3d3]12345[/COLOR]
Routing: From: xx_
            To: YYY
Carrier: QF Class: U
Ticket: [COLOR=#d3d3d3]ABCDEF [/COLOR]
Passenger: [COLOR=#d3d3d3] SERFTYMR[/COLOR]
PRICE EX GST 66.25
PLUS GST 24.41
Note the GST charged. That puts the GST exclusive value of the ticket and [SUP]+++[/SUP] at $244.10.

I guess Qantas are applying a specific value to the points being used and charging GST on them.

If such a booking is for business purposes, that may give an input tax credit and a deductibility for the balance.

Of course, as with anything like this, I suggest you discuss with your accountant.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks! I've seen a few already.
I was really quite lucky, as I didn't have to do any extra flights, I just changed the flights I was already flying to JASA for the cost of a few points :)

How do u change the flights u were already flying to JASA? I think I have almost read all thread and dun think I can figure out away to do that while still earning SC. Very appreciate if u could cast some light on this. Cheers

Is it possible to book a dom JASA like this and then reschedule the 2nd sector for a few days later (assuming availability)?

I'm trying to figure out if I can do a HBA-SYD-CBR, but with a 3 day stop over in SYD for a conference.

It may be possible, but extremely unlikely - you'd need a compliant agent.

This is because the fare is for HBA-CBR and its rules are unlikely to allow stopovers en route (HBA-oSYD-CBR).

OK, I was trying to look up the fare rules on the QF web site but I couldn't find anything relating to stopovers.

I have read that people have done this when doing the BNE-LAN run. I presume that this fare explicitly does allow stopovers.
