re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.
I've recently had experience booking 2 x JASA's early December HNL/xSYD/BNE at classic points level for 60,000 points each plus cash of USD1510.78 total for two people.
I just booked another JASA for May next year this time HNL/xSYD/DRW at classic points level for 72,000 points each plus cash of USD998.00 total for two people.
Besides DRW, I was experimenting with JASA's ex HNL to MEL/CNS/PER/BNE - points levels vary, which all show connecting flights that same evening after arriving off QF4 at 1745, however for places like ADL or TSV where the flight(s) from SYD would be the following day the availability says "no available flights" simply because it can't flight an immediate connection. As it is an international ticket the standard IATA definition of a stopover is more than 24 hours so overnighting shouldn't be a problem. In any case this fare permits 2 stopovers.
I rang QF res (prior to booking HNL/xSYD/DRW JASA online myself) to ask them how I can booked HNL/SYD/BNE/TSV but they seemed to be really in the dark about JASA's & said "you'd be better off doing a classic award" which is obviously their comfort zone & I'm thinking NO - I'm better off doing a JASA. TSV is showing a minimum points of 60,000 so for two of us it should be 120,000 & we had 144,000 points available, however when the CSA put the routing in she said we didn't have enough points & I got the distinct impression that she was doing the availability in sectors.
I tried using the multicity tool & found I could get all the sectors in however, whilst it showed HNL/SYD in J the SYD/BNE & BNE/TSV only showed whY but in the J column had the option of eg + 7,200 points to upgrade to J however IMHO you should be allowed to book J on those sectors without having to pay a points surcharge.
The fare basis is UBPASROW & the rules clearly stipulate you can have two stopovers but has anyone out there on AFF actually been able to do anything like this?
Also if anyone is considering a subscription to Expert Flyer, IMHO is really worth it because of the 'flight alert' facility where they email you if the flight(s) you nominate become available in eg P/U/Z/X classes!
Thanks in advance.
