re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

I am not sure if this is the most appropriate thread to ask this question, but can you do a mixed class ASA? For example, go YASA and return Premium Economy ASA?
Thanks.

In my limited experience in this area, long haul flights (which are normally priced as a return) will be poor value when booked as 2 x one-way xASAs. We had this recently where Mrs Aus ATC will be flying to LHR - Y outbound and J return, and I booked the flights as Classic Awards - ASAs were overpriced, even with Classic Award availability.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

You can if you book the outbound and return as two separate bookings.
Certainly that would work, but to be clear, for domestic bookings online you can indeed mix the outbound and the return.

No so for international (as Premium Economy implies.)

Thanks for the clarification. I saw PE and figured the question related to international.

are you seeing 'classic award' inventory because you are platinum?

as a silver... if I see classic award availability then it is also available as a very cheap ASA. so in that case, booking two tickets makes little if any difference. it's exactly half the award.

I can't recall for certain when I was researching this trip, but I think the Classic Awards were also available on Mrs Aus ATC's login as well (PS). The point I should have made was that I could book a "classic priced" JASA return for myself, but a one way JASA for Mrs Aus ATC from LHR was ridiculously priced - so she is on a J Classic Award.

Has anyone scored two FASA's on the one flight before and if so would you be willing to share the method?
Looking for two seats SYD-HKG next year.
One booked already, not yet telephoned to request one but will do as a last ( likely unsuccessful ) resort :(

I'm thinking you'll have to call. I've taken QF127 / 128 about a dozen times in the last year and never seen more than P1 available.
And when it's gone, it stays gone.

Thanks for that, the other option which I think I will take is to book a JASA on the same flight with an upgrade request.
I just need to convince Shrek that he's better off in the Skybed  :p

No. But I've only tried about 3 dozen times.

As another alternative, you could book the second seat as a JASA and then ring to request a cash upgrade to F combined with a WP classic award F seat release to make it cheap? I've never done it, but there's another thread detailing others experiences doing this and it sounds quite affordable much of the time.

AFAIK, you need to have P class availability for this to work - something to keep in mind.

Hi Princess Fioana I booked 2 FASA's to London leaving April next year. No special tricks involved except that I was prepared to book nearly 12 months in advance, Did orignailly book JASA's where FASA's were available and then I upgraded with cash to FASA's. Good luck.

How much was the cash "upgrade" difference?

Princess Fiona - had to telephone to arrange there was a technical issue using the upgrade option

Thanks :)
I have one FASA and one JASA on the same flight, I'll call up and see if the JASA can be upgraded.

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

From memory $540 per person

One way or return?

If a one way JASA MEL-LHR is 128k points + $622 and FASA is 192k points + $684, the one way difference is 64k points + $62.

Twice that is roughly a return difference of 128k points + $124. If you compare that to $540, 128k points would be "valued" at $416. That equates to 0.325c per point if talking about a return ticket!

If one way, 0.65c per point is still good..

Not to mention if you didn't have the extra points in the first place you wouldn't have that option of an FASA...

I wonder what the PE equivalent would be and if you could upgrade from PE to F :o
