re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Hi guys, it has been a while since I've frequented this forum. The AMEX points downgrades brought me here today but I was surprised to find this as well. I need 215 SCs for re-acquiring gold by the end of June after losing it at the end of last year, and I had written it off as I had no interest in paying for those sorts of fares and number of flights needed. But if I read correctly, I can book a return Business Fare ASA to Adelaide in June and will get 240 SC's for the return flight (120 normal plus double SC's). The cost will be 48,000 points plus $284 from my search on Qantas just now. My main concern prior to booking is that I will definitely get the 240 SC's. Is this correct?

Yes you will get 240 SC for SYD ADL return, of one were to instead spend similar money and do SYD- BNE - TSV then TSV - ADL you would get 440 SC, and don't forget the loyalty bonus every 500 SC and that the flight also earn miles, Platinum is not far away which gives you two years of Gold benefits ;).

Don't forget to activate the offer before you book as well!

Although registering before booking wasn't actually a requirement of the offer this time around (which is strange), it's nonetheless a good idea.

Cheers guys, definitely activated this afternoon and booked after reading this later this evening. Adelaide is the choice so I can visit my 1 and 3 year old cousins.

I don't often post on here, but do find it such an incredibly valuable resource.

Just wanted to thank everyone for their input, which I've used to book my first JASA to MEL on the June long weekend. 16,000 points and about $100 one way which saved me about $200 compared to the next cheapest red e-deal fare. A more comfortable flight, more SC's for less money. I can't believe I haven't done this earlier.

Even better, it's also my first flight up the pointy end.

:)

So thanks AFF!!

I hope you realise that once you sit up the front, the seats down the back get awfully uncomfortable. :)

I go in with eyes wide open, particularly conscious that my Red e-deal on the way back will be particularly painful.

Still hoping I can convince myself this is a one-off aberration that I need not repeat (though those JASA's will become awfully tempting from now on...)

One off? You have to be joking!

Let alone if one includes SWMBO in the booking and then factors in the future cost of "once UP FRONT has been experienced then there is no going back BEHIND THE CURTAIN" !

Will need to find more avenues for increasing the points balance because at my age, paid seats aren't really an option!

Bizarrely, SWMBO has flown J quite a few times with her family and thinks its overrated. She's a bit of a strange one though (not a big fan of flying), and I think it's largely because she hasn't flown it in a while.

I guess that has decided who gets the op-up!

Mrs Lime n self did CNS/HKG/CNS last year, she said I'll go Y and spend the difference in HK, so I went J, boarded flight, for some reason I had that 6th sense, turned around and low and behold there she was on other side of cabin opped up to J!.

How good is that! Hope she had fun spending the difference. :)

From the Qantas newsroom:

Latest figures show that redemptions by Frequent Flyer members rose by 7.8 per cent in March compared to the same time last year.

That would be all of us on xASA's :D

I am not sure if this is the most appropriate thread to ask this question, but can you do a mixed class ASA? For example, go YASA and return Premium Economy ASA?
Thanks.

You can if you book the outbound and return as two separate bookings.
