Guys

It appears I am not on the DSC email list - again.

What's your suggestion for the cheapest route ex-SYD for 10 SCs ?

Yes, it is ridiculous but I need 10 SCs to crack WP.

I have a MEL J trip in June netting 80 SCs but that leaves me with 10 SCs short !!!!

Another SYD MEL in discount Y would cost 10K points and $138.

? Wait for some JQ specials

I don't think I could get cheaper $$ from QF, or could I ?

Would appreciate some $-saving suggestions from AFFers

For 10 SCs and a quick turnaround, I'd be looking at a regional centre, like Armidale, Coffs Harbour, Wagga Wagga etc.

Melbourne cheaper, no?

Have a look at JQ Sydney to Avalon $108 round trip with plus pack that includes SCs etc.

Almost certainly, I would suggest. But going to a regional centre would, I think, minimise the time taken to get the 10 SCs. It's 80 to 90 minutes gate-to-gate between Sydney and Melbourne and they you've got to factor in the time on the ground in Melbourne to turnaround. With a regional centre you can be almost guaranteed a same plane turnaround making it a lot easier, in my opinion.

Man, the noise from the turboprop would accelerate me towards a hearing aid centre.

Used to do this for my job some twenty years ago - to Wagga Wagga, that was.

When is your year ending? With QL, VA and the Tiger all competing on the CFS routs there have been plenty of specials of late. If you have time and keep an eye out for the next sale you could pick up a flight for $69-$79 each way. Fly after 1600 and get the complimentary wine or beer service:D. Finish one year and put the other 10SCs into the next.

The Q400 is much quieter than the planes from 20 years ago; seems to me that there is less noise at the back than at the front.

My 20 cents worth; JV

Thank you, JV

Will look out for a special fare there.

Didn't quite understand the bit about '10 SCs for one year.... 10 for the next'

You mean I should stay overnight in CFS taking the return flight in the new membership year?

My Mrs would not give me a pass for that, sorry!

a related question regarding cancellation and refund for JASA

I started typing a question for this thread, but it seemed to have disappeared (I hit the wrong button).

This a related question regarding the cancellation and refund for a JASA trip. A few months ago, we booked for hubby to do a status run in Australia in June (we are living in the UK). Lo & behold, he received an offer from QF for double status credits for "new" bookings and flights to end of June. He had never got this type of offer before! So, I have been thinking if we should cancel his existing JASA, and book new ones (may have to look for new routes).

The questions are: If we cancel JASA trip (not yet taken), will QF credit all the points back to hubby's account? Will QF refund the money paid in taxes & charges? I did read a few posts back in this thread that the cancellation must be done via telephone with QF, and not online - otherwise they will refund some silly amount of money as credit to new flights (a bit of a concern here). I have checked hubby's eticket and it did not mention cancellation and refund. I have also checked the QF website but it seemed to be very confusing and vague.

Any help to sort this out would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Re: a related question regarding cancellation and refund for JASA

It depends on the terms applicable to his JASA. If you cannot find them just call QF and they will look it up for you.
I hope it works as a points refund and refund of taxes would be ideal.

Thanks, cove. Will have to call QF then to clarify.

provided its not a special discounted business saver etc etc (I think for most domestic travel it's ok) then you get the full refund doing it by phone. of course qantas try and make it sound as confusing as possible, they want you to take a voucher for some low amount! I rang qf to clarify what it all meant and they said 'fully refundable if by phone'.

There is a sale at present for $79 each way for (some dates) May-June and July-September.

Yes, I was suggesting you could stay overnight in CFS if that suited but may not be worth it (also depends on your membership year end). Either way, if you decide on this as an option, send me a PM; we may be able to catch up for a glass of lemonade;). JV

Hi JV

What a coincidence !

I just made a JQ return booking tonight to Avalon in June.

Return with Plus Bundle (for the SCs, of course) cost me about 15,000 points all up and $0.00

I am happy with that as SYD-MEL in Y with QF will cost 10,000 points and $138 on the same date !

Thanks, MARKIS10 - that was your idea !!

Cheers

Glad to see it worked out for you. We will have to have that glass of lemonade in a lounge somewhere. JV

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Thanks to the collective wisdom of this website, I have snared a JASA SYD-xMEL-LHR and return for October/November. 256K points + $1560.00, returning 560SC and about 55k points. Very pleased. :) Mrs Aus ATC is leaving for Europe a couple of weeks earlier, with Miss Aus ATC (in Y!) - returning with me on a Classic Business Class Award - first time in International J, so I may be in trouble for future trips!;)

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the site and am wanting some advice on how to take advantage of the double SC promotion on Qantas. I have 450 SC and my year ends on 31 May. I have 80K points and want some advice on what routing to do on my status run to maximise my points, $ etc. It will be ex MEL. I have a USA trip booked for 25th May which will earn my 90SC to LAX but would ideally like to hit gold before then so I can use lounge etc. Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Thanks

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

just having a asa v's classic awards play:
classic awards - syd - coffs rtn (economy) = 16,000 points + $86
ASA syd - coffs rtn (economy) 17300pts (inc taxes) OR 10000 (min points) + $50. Either way ASA much better value and SC FF Points thrown in!!!!
Well done to all involved in AFF!

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

another good example - international this time
classic - business - 256K pts + $1250
ASA - business - 287 pts + $1250. (Scaled back from 403 points). for an extra 30Kpoints you earn pts +SC

re: ( Now gone) "how do I book a J any seat award at classic award points level" thread.

Looking for a JASA or FASA SYD-LAX later this year, and thought cheap FASAs showed up in the P bucket on EF, with cheap JASAs in U.

Looks like I'm wrong and I'd dearly love to know which bucket I should be searching on?

Found P=1 in Oct SYD-LAX, however the FASA cost is something like 400,000,000  points (I exaggerate), yet it does show up as an F Classic Award, and, perhaps better still, a 72.5K F Aaward all the way over the RSW where I'm headed. I may take that if it's still there next month.

However, keen to find even a JASA as I may need the SCs to requalify as WP.
